    What about your personal morality?

Have you ever read Schopenhauer? Maybe you should.

If your personal morality doesn't stem from being a Christian--and therefore, from a holy and righteous God--then your personal morality is man-made.

Of course if we are Christian our personal morality should be based on that which God expects. Where does compassion come into your personality morality and how you conduct your life?

Since his value system apparently does not come from God I have no interest.

Are there people - say atheists - who are very moral?

The root of one's personal moral nature can come from many prompts. As Rev said, the Christians choice of following a moral nature should come from obedience to the holy God we serve.

But even Christians and nonChristians alike can fail and "behave" out of duty, wanting to score "points" with God/authority of man, avoiding punishment, or even wanting to impress others.

And there are moral codes that have nothing to do with compassion.

If I make a moral choice not to sleep with a man who is not my husband, I don't make that choice out of compassion, but of obedience to God. The same with making the moral choice not to steal monies from petty cash at work. My motivation there, other than God's command not to steal, is not to lose my job, because getting caught is inevitable.

Compassion can drive a few moral choices, but compassion is not a blanket or universal motivator.

All moral standards outside of God are subjective and therefore dependent on the individual. Such moral codes cannot, nor should, be imposed on someone else for the individual has not moral authority of another. However, God and God alone has all authority and is the only moral code that could and should be imposed on all people.

Therefore, there is no moral code expect God's.

Or more appropriately - Gods moral law is the best as it is perfect.

Not by YOUR standards, boy. You push communist health care, for instance, and say it's compassionate. But God could heal every disease and rid the world of every one.. but he doesn't. So you tell me, snip- does God show compassion?
