I'm not sure who he is besides some basic things. He keeps coming up in conversations I have had with other Christians, and they seem to think he is the greatest thing since _______.

I'm not sure if the guy is Baptist, but the folks I have been talking to about him are. The little I have listen to his sermons, and the daily devotions I get by email, leave me with a very un-easy feeling about him. Is it me, and this guy is legit, or would he be someone to avoid in your opinion.

Part of the reason I ask is our Church is considering some of his material for a study series.

I look forward to hearing any comments you have

    Thanks
    Kevin

David is an old and valued acquaintance of my 35 years of ministry in San Diego. He has been pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, formerly known as Scott Memorial Baptist Church which was pastored by Tim LaHay, since 1981.

David's father was James Jeremiah, Baptist pastor and former president of Cedarville College, later University, one of the GARBC (General Association of Regular Baptist Churches) approved schools.

Shadow Mountain is now in cooperative fellowship with the Southern Baptist Convention. The church presently has an attendance of around 10,000 people on Sunday morning.

David was also President Christian Heritage College (now known as San Diego Christian College) from 1988 to 1998, which is a fully accredited Christian liberal arts college.

He received his BA from Cedarville (of course, his dad was President) and his Master's degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.

He is a good man, a good father, a good pastor, and an excellent writer and expositor.

I've seen a couple of his sermons on TV, which were solid. Other than that I don't know much about him.

He is very sound, but I have to admit he is something of a boring preacher. He bends over the pulpit and reads his sermons. It is hard to stay awake, but if you do you will learn a lot. :)

The older I get, the more I appreciate boring but theologically sound as opposed to a fiery showman / kook.

While I'm not a regular listener of Mr. Jeremiah, I have heard him on the radio a few times, and I've liked what I've heard.

    :)

I thank you all for responding. I feel a lot better knowing he has supporters on here. I was nervous about him when I only had a few search results on this forum for him.

Maybe it is just his personality that doesn't sit well with me,but that doesn't matter if he is preaching sound Biblical principles.

What books or study materials is your church considering using? Like I said I own many of his books and love his teachings. He is not boring in the least for me.

It was just a comment about planning another Bible Study, and he was one of the names mentioned. It seems like just about everyone sends up alarms to me these days, and with David Jeremiah I wasn't familiar with him.

When they decide what they will use, then I will research it more, as long as it isn't about the pope, like the study they were having at one Baptist Church I went to twice. I had to go back the second time, just to check my sanity.

When it comes to a study I like to have things I don't necessarily agree with, just to keep me on my toes, but the pope and how wonderful he is (the present pope, if that matters), that is a little to far out there for me.

He is a very good, and godly, man. I went to college with one of his daughter's and sat under his instruction when he was adjunct faculty. I was impressed with him.
