It is sad that any country would have to write a law like that, and I'm thinking of all the abandoned elderly folks in the US

Do you know what china does to babies? Should we really be using them as an example of anything?

[IMG]Rev, you are very good at playing the role of thorwing or attempting to throw threads off topic.

Kevin, my guess is that law came about not so much by need and neglected parents in China, but because of the importance that family and parents have played in the Chinese culture for centuries. Filial piety was of the highest importance in China. In traditional Chinese culture there is nothing worse than not to show filial piety towards your parents.

Filial piety isn't in the vocabulary of most Americans and it shows in how so many of our elderly are treated. Or should I say mistreated?

Would that be the murder of innocent babies just because their parents already reached their quota, or the were unfortunate enough to be conceived the wrong sex.

We that live in the US shouldn't be complaining about another country until we can explain why we allow it here.

If that isn't what you meant, sorry, but still my point is valid. I Think

    Kevin, it wasn't my intention.

To me the OP does point out that the Chinese culture places a very high value on taking care of parents. Also, abortion was imposed by the government. If you have ever been in China and lived there so you could see how children are treated you would find they are viewed very lovingly and with great love.

My parents would never get near China, so I wouldn't even have a shot at abandoning them there!
