In the aftermath of Hillary Clinton’s stunning loss in New Hampshire, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell said the Democratic Party is “completely splintered.”

Tuesday night during MSNBC’s post-New Hampshire primary coverage, Mitchell said, “The Democratic Party meanwhile is completely splintered. Bernie Sanders taken on the establishment.”

She also said that Bill Clinton has got an incredulous look on his face when he watches her campaign, "OMG this is happening again. She's going to lose again."

Its happening in the GOP too...but to a lesser degree.

Best thing I heard last night was that, Chris Christie's take down of Rubio is looking more like a murder-suicide than political maneuvering.

I'll just repeat what I said in the other thread. There's no splinter in the Democrat Party. That's a sound byte that just makes for news since that's what is going on in the GOP.

Bernie may have had a good showing in NH. But once Hillary takes Nevada and South Carolina and most of the Super Tuesday states, folks will see that Bernie can't win.

As we speak, she has a 362 to 8 superdelegate lead over Sanders. And a 394 to 42 overall delegate lead.

She'll win Nevada and South Carolina. She'll probably win Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia all on March 1st.

Sanders doesn't have the support in the South and thus doesn't have the math to beat her.

The Democrats know that priority #1 is The SCOTUS. Hillary Clinton wins the White House and a possible 3 to 4 SCOTUS appointments. Sanders doesn't.

What was so STUNNING about it? She had been down 2 to 1 in NH for months.

Two splinters versus is it 6 or 7 or is it 15 in the GOP?

Where as the political philosophies among the candidates of the GOP are widely spread Hillary and Bernie's political philosophy is closer together. Regardless of who is nominated by the GOP there are going to be segments that will be very unhappy. Not so with the Democrats.

I don't know about that. There are people at Slate and Salon that I think will be indignant if Hilary wins. Although I find it very ironic right now that for the party that claims to be all about the will of the people, and the democratic process, that she has way more delegates then Sanders after a tie and a defeat. I think we will see a repeat of 2008, I have thought that for a long time. Especially with the FBI investigating her.

They haven't done anything, yetBiggrin, to subvert the will of the people. The super-delegates are part of the people. They can pledge their votes to whomever they wish.

This was instituted to aid the democratic process to take power away from the "dictatorial " party leaders and make the actual primary results mean more.

The FBI stuff won't amount to anything that will keep her out of office. And again, mathematically, you won't see a repeat of 2008.

I wouldn't say the Democrats were "splintered" but there is some wedge in that party between the establishment (Clintons) and the "outsiders" (Sanders - he's a senator but he's not even a democrat).

Superdelegates comprise about 20% in that party, and the last time I looked, Hillary had a 45-1 advantage in those. She will do quite well in SC next, and will solidify her support on Super Tuesday. That's why the Clintons were so calm yesterday.

BUT, after securing the nomination, it will be up to her to unite the party. Still, she won in a tie and lost badly in NH, where she lost in every demo except those over 65, meaning she needs to step up and strip those groups that should be "hers", all those millennials that vote for Bernie will feel cheated and may stay home.

Exactly. She already knew this would be the outcome in NH. It is right next to Vermont. But she didn't lose any ground, and actually may end up gaining a step.

Bernie will have to bring those millennials into her fold and show them what's at stake if she doesn't win the general election.
It shouldn't be that difficult as most of the millennials don't really vote on conviction but rather on feelings and who is faddish.

I have got to go back to work, but, yes, she needs to make sure they don't feel "cheated", that their vote didn't count or something. Hillary is being way underestimated IMO, and that's always a mistake to do.

    That's the tshirt right there.

Back during 2008 right about this time, I remember Barack Obama's camp expressing that it was just about a mathematical impossibility for Hillary to get the nomination. She got her "game plan" going while Bernie was getting his "on the ground" plan going. Her plan has swallowed his and she, like Barack Obama in 2008, mathematically can't lose unless she decides she wants to lose.
