"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the gospel," the Pope told journalists who asked his opinion on Trump's proposals to halt illegal immigration.

Trump immediately fired back on Thursday, calling Francis' comments "disgraceful."

"No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man's religion or faith," he said in statement.

    ----------------

Hypocrite Trump has said on many, many occasions that Ted Cruz is not a Christian.

So the standard for Orthodoxy is whether or not one supports a wall on the country's border and then he calls that the gospel?

I would say the standard by which one is a Christian is one who actually knows what the gospel is. The Pope does not meet that standard based on his own statements.

I was watching this during my midday workout at the gym. They did this big BREAKING NEWS thing about Trump responding to the Pope.

The world has collectively lost its mind.

It would have gotten really ugly if Donald had said about the Pope, "Well you know a lot of evangelicals don't consider you a Christian either."

It's absolutely disgusting that the name of Christ is now being used as a political weapon.

Only know the gospel? What about applying the gospel to how a person lives their life?

Do you believe Trump lives a Christ-like life?

Wait a minute. Do not try to change what he said and put your own spin on it.

I have no idea what Trump does. I am not defending Trump nor would I vote for him. My concern is the Pope declaring Trump to not be a Christian over a wall. That was a vile personal attack over personal preferences. It itself was an unChristian act and unbecoming of someone who thinks they are a world religious leader.

Okay. Let's look at that pronouncement. Oh oh. Doesn't look too good for the Pope. By his own standard he is not a Christian! [Pic is wall around the Vatican.]

The problem is that's NOT what the Pope said. He first claimed:

"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian."

IOW, it's okay in his eyes to think about building walls unless that's all you think about - the Pope here is talking about reaching out. He is another open borders freak, outside of the Vatican but I think it's because a lot of the American illegals are Roman Catholic and from south of the border just like him.

But there was an agenda here, too - the MSM wanted a slam on Donald Trump and asked the Pope what he thought of Trump:

"I say only that "This man is not Christian if he has said things like that," Francis said. "We must see if he said things in that way and in this I give the benefit of the doubt
    ."

So the MSM got their money quote and Trump got more free publicity.

I never knew one has to be a civil engineer to be a Christian.

    Yeah I was going to ask . . .

How many Muslim "refugees" has the Pope invited to live inside those towering walls?

I only ask if a person should apply the teachings of the gospel to their own life. Should they?

Here is a bit from Wikipedia on Trump's personal life. Does it read as that of a Christlike person?

    From Wikipedia:

Trump has had three marriages, which have been well-documented in the tabloid media.[295] His personal life has gained extensive media coverage.[296]

Trump married model Ivana Zelníčková on April 7, 1977, at the Marble Collegiate Church in New York.[297] They have three children: sons Donald, Jr. (born December 31, 1977) and Eric (born January 6, 1984), and daughter Ivanka (born October 30, 1981). Ivana became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1988, with Trump at her side.[298] Trump is popularly known as "The Donald", a nickname perpetuated by the media after Ivana referred to him as such in a 1989 Spy Magazine cover story.[299][300] By early 1990, Trump's troubled marriage to Ivana and long-running affair with actressMarla Maples had become widely documented in the tabloid press.[20][301] The couple divorced in 1991.[302]

Maples gave birth to their daughter Tiffany on October 13, 1993. They married two months later on December 20, 1993.[303] The couple formally separated in May 1997,[304] with their divorce finalized in June 1999.[305][306]

Trump dated model Kara Young in the mid to late 1990s,[307] and reportedly "bombarded" Princess Diana with expensive floral arrangements after her 1996 divorce from Prince Charles.[308] "I only have one regret in the women department – that I never had the opportunity to court Lady Diana Spencer", Trump wrote in his 1997 book, The Art of the Comeback. "I met her on a number of occasions … She was a genuine princess – a dream lady."[309]

In 1998, Trump began a relationship with Slovenian-born fashion model, Melania Knauss.[310][311]They became engaged in April 2004[312] and were married on January 22, 2005 at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, on the island of Palm Beach, Florida, followed by a reception at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate.[313][314][315] In 2006, Melania became a naturalized U.S. citizen.[311] In March 2006, she gave birth to their son named Barron William Trump.[316][317] (Trump had previously used the pseudonym "John Baron" in some business deals.[61]) Having spoken the language since his childhood, Barron is fluent in Slovenian.[318] In a February 2009 interview on ABC's news programNightline, Trump commented on his ex-wives: "I just know it's very hard for them [Ivana and Marla] to compete because I do love what I do. I really love it."[319]

Trump has eight grandchildren: five from his son Donald Jr. (Kai Madison, Donald John III, Tristan Milos, Spencer Frederick, and Chloe Sophia)[320][321][322] and three from his daughter Ivanka (Arabella Rose and Joseph Frederick).[323][324]

It reads much like a man described in the Bible as being "after God's own heart."

Not at all. Trump is not a musician, plays no instrument to sooth people that I know of. Not at all like David.

His first 6 sons were by 6 different wives, and he went after another man's wife [or was that his lamb?]. There are some equivalencies; most of all that both used their wealth and power to make these pursuits that are just not there for most men; at least not such 'high profile.' I wonder if when Trump's on his death bed he will hire a virgin to be his teddie bear.

Compared to the Bush's and other high powered "world leaders" that dress up in black and red robes to perform the pagan "cremation of care" ritual at the base of a 40' owl statue every summer, and the Clinton's, oh yeah the Clintons. Bill is a degenerate habitual sex offender and his wife a pathological liar that protects him and her own lust for power by intimidating Bill's victims into silence Trump is a saint.

I'll take Trump over these other fakes any day.
