Yep, many variants in the phrase, "...the mystery of ..."
But not a whole lot of mystery in the meaning of the passage.

Thanks for commenting. I thought maybe the "Mystery" is the Holy Spirit and Paul has the Trinity in mind.

Exactly because "the Mystery" is not the mystics or any of their ~variants~.

Notice Tischendorf in effect reduces the ~variants~ to "God" the "I Am"; or maybe I interpret him wrong.

Not sure if this will help, but you can quickly get an idea of Paul's meaning of Mystery here and further study it here.

I would just suggest that if we had to sum up the primary Mystery of the New Testament (in a meaning of not being previously revealed), it would center on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and God's Redemptive Plan. Not that we do not see the Gospel of Christ in the Old Testament or the Gospels, but that it was not revealed in those Ages in the sense that men were made to understand it. Abraham, for example, would not likely have considered Genesis 3:15 the first account of the Gospel of Christ, because it had not been revealed to him that God would manifest in the flesh and die in the place of the sinner. Ironically (or not) he states "God will provide Himself a lamb." He meant God would provide that necessary sacrifice he and his son were going to perform, but, we can understand that, having had the mystery revealed to us, as "...God will provide Himself a lamb."

    Hope that helps.

    God bless.
