Donald Trump makes wild threat to 'spill the beans' on Ted Cruz's wife

Washington (CNN) Donald Trump escalated his feud with Ted Cruz on Twitter Tuesday — but this time he also involved the Texas senator's wife.

The real estate mogul tweeted that the Texas senator should "be careful" or he would "spill the beans on your wife" Heidi Cruz.

"Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin' Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!," he tweeted Tuesday evening, just minutes before polls closed in Arizona. Trump tweeted and deleted a similar version of the Tweet about 10 minutes earlier.

Trump appears to be referring to a Facebook advertisement targeted to Mormons that shows Trump's wife, Melania, posing nude. That ad was produced by an anti-Trump super PAC, Make America Awesome, which has no known connection to the Cruz campaign.

Must have really stung to get only 14% of the vote in Utah, huh Donald? That wasn't even the minimum percent of popular vote to qualify you for delegates. Oh, and you lost to Kasich as well in Utah. Must have been one of those experts you surround yourself with that advised you to question Mitt Romney's Mormon faith. In Utah. Brilliant move there.

The right thing Cruz should have done was to immediately dissociate his campaign from that racy ad, instead of seeing if it will do the harm intended, or wait until Utah is over. Trump is right to react that way, and he does have some "dirt" on Cruz' wife, but I suspect it's something that is common knowledge already: her association with Goldman Sachs.

Trump is pathetic to go after someone's wife. For someone that talks about how great he is he certainly likes go after people clearly weaker then himself.

The ad was created and placed by a super PAC. Candidates have no control over what ads super Pacs run.

She's a woman. Trump goes after women. Just another reason, probably the MAIN reason, he would lose to Hillary.

Trump's latest juvenile name calling is "Incompetent Hillary". So now we have:

    Lyin' Ted
    Little Marco
    Low Energy Jeb
    Incompetent Hillary

Wonder what he'll come up with for John Kasich? "One State Wonder"?

Correct. The ad should have never been run, and the correct thing for the Cruz campaign to do was to disassociate himself from the ad.

On the other hand, does Trump really need to personally threaten Cruz's wife?

    Here is Trump's post -
"Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin' Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!"

    Here is Cruz's response -
"Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you're more of a coward than I thought."

I didn't say they had any control, but nobody can tell me candidates don't know what's going on around them. Cruz KNEW. If he didn't, then he shouldn't be aspiring for POTUS. So he should've immediately renounced it as inappropriate. But he didn't, and of course somebody might say that was true. But is it ? Or was he simply letting it roll, because he needed every imaginable aid he can get to unseat Trump as front runner ?

Trump the one person people dislike more then Clinton. Yeah what should have been an easy win for the GOP will be a bloodbath for the Clinton machine.

That simply draws more attention to the ad. That strategy backfires.

I don't think he'll lose to Hillary for that reason. He'll lose because if the establishment GOP torpedoes him after it turns out he has the majority of delegate votes come the convention, his voters, and also Cruz's (whom the establishment GOP will likely torpedo as well if he wins the majority, and hates as much if not more than Trump) will likely stay home, or vote for Hillary. I know my entire clan will. And here's another likely reason Hillary will win. The way this thing is shaping up: with both the Cruz Hallelujah choir and the Trump drumrollers adopting the "ain' buyin' if it ain' my guy" attitude.

I really wish Cruz had done something like apologize for the tenor of the distasteful ad even though he was not directly responsible for it. It would have then placed Trump in a defensive position.

By responding to Trump's comments about Heidi, he's allowed this to turn into the same type fiasco we saw with Trump and Rubio.

When I heard about the "story" this morning, I could not understand why Cruz would even dignify that foolishness with a like response? Now he's got Trump pulling his strings.

Enough already. Hammer him on the issues so that people can continue to see how flustered he gets when required to answer questions that require substance.

Trump is a lot dumber than he thinks himself to be. Listening to him speak on ANYTHING, if it were not for his family's money, I would almost have to wonder how he got in and graduated from the Wharton School of Business.

Cruz might just get that 82% if he started talking that way and had some fire in his eyes.

The people want a fighter this time around. Soldiers aren't trained to debate. They're trained to kill. And to go up against the Socialists, one needs to be a soldier.

Stooping to Trump's level and engaging in name calling is what doomed Rubio's campaign.

Correction: About 35% of the people want a fighter this time around.

What doomed him was his stupidity, and the unskillful way he went about it. Again, what you don't realize is that to go after Trump is to go after the people, and they aren't stupid. They aren't racists. Their eyes are wide open and they see what's at stake.

And, they don't have small hands.

You keep talking about how unpopular Trump is, but he's huge. The numbers aren't telling the whole story.

Please tell us about this popularity that is not measured with numbers. I'd really like to know about this new, heretofore unheard of metric.

Which was why he tried to stoop to Trump's level. And Cruz will do well to learn from Rubio's mis-steps.

Don't respond to Trump's foolishness. Go on the offensive and talk about things that matter. Make Trump comment on those things. Show the world that Wharton degree was bought with money and not earned.

It's to go after some of the people. And some of the people are very stupid and only supporting this man because they are angry and he says what they want to say.

Some of them are quite racist and quite racially prejudiced. And Trump has played off that the exact same way that George Wallace did in the 60s.

Their eyes are wide open and their minds are sealed shut. They are concerned about them and them alone because they think the country is rightfully theirs, and they want it back. And if that means building a wall...

Or high IQs or much education. But then again, I know a lot of dumb smart folks too lol.

    Is that you Donald?

Well, I'm huge. I'm making a lot of progress because I'm huge. You know, I'm huge, and you would have said that I'm huge and if you watched any of my huge events. I’ve seen Bernie's crowds. They're kinda huge. But mine are huge. I get crowds that are extremely huge too. He’s got that. He’s got a lot of people going to see him. But I have huger crowds of people coming to see me. Do I think so? No, I don’t think so. But you know stranger – hey, you been in this world a long time. Stranger things have happened. And I am huge right now.Biggrin

When this is all over, scientists are gonna examine his speech patterns and determine that he merely smoked ivy and wasn't really Ivy League educated.

The other day I contemplated Donald Trump delivering the State of the Union address. Oh boy...can you imagine?

Is that GIF from "The IT Crowd"?

Anyway, once you've scrubbed the image of Trump trying to give a coherent State of the Union Address, consider his Inauguration Speech. Yikes!

Agreed. Responding to Trump the way he did really ruined Rubio. He is better than that and he knows it. At least he apologized for it.

Cruz needs to stay above the pettiness, the name calling and the poll numbers. He needs to stay focused on the issues at hand and specific policies. For example ---

Immigration - What else is there in addition to "building a wall"?

Healthcare reform - What else is there beside "removing the lines"? (Which by the way, is state, not federally regulated. Do we really want the federal government to regulate this?)

NATO - Really? We need to pull back from NATO?

Nuclear Triad - Now that Trump knows what it is...

Refugees - Anything other than not letting people in because of their religion?

If he stays focused on policy, he should win. If he gets into the Trump gutter like Rubio did or gets lured into Trump land, he will lose.
