I envy my parents church. The pastor does not dodge controversial subjects and they told me that today he preached on Unconditional election. Jesus would have to return before the pastors at my church preached on such a topic, but then again leaning towards Arminianism I doubt they ever would. Is your church like this one a mile wide and a inch deep, or does it dive in depth on subjects?

Does your church preach on Hell and sin or does it just mention the topics, but never dives into what they really are?

Does your church teach systematic theology?

Some grow where God plants them.

Some make excuses for not taking in the nutrients of the place God plants them.

Rather than maintaining a dialogue critical of the fellowship of believers in which God has placed you, take that attitude that God knows what you need to learn and what areas you need to grow in the place in which you are found.

It is important that a believer learns that seeing others blessed while they are in a drought is a blessing to them.

Brother, I looked around for a long time & found a very humble church that sovereign grace. I only wish that they were closer in my community instead of an hour away. Ultimately if I want something where my ppl are, I will have to start something. Maybe that's your calling.

Hubby has spoken on hell, I believe on all TULIP points at some time or another, addressing heaven tourism books and Jesus Calling, the prosperity gospel, and even Yankees are better than Red Sox. :D

Good thing for me I am blessed to have preachers like John MacArthur and RC Sproul on podcast so I can get fed. Also not including my many books in my library.

Mac is presently preaching through the DOG at this time.

If one preaches the gospel one preaches a controversial subject.

Now, my church preaches on hell, repentance, the love of God, but they usually don't get too deep in preaching it. They usually say "you must repent and be born again". Now, my studying has led me to believe that is backwards, as one who is truly repenting of their sins, the new birth has already taken place. I'll stop there to keep from hijacking the thread.

But they do preach Christ and His love.

The main thing is to not do as A.W. Pink and not go anywhere for ~ 20 years.

I think that there is a problem in that, Evan. We should not exist merely to be fed, but also to participate within the local body (we are fed, but we also feed, within the same entity). This is what it is to be a member of the body of Christ.

You should be under a pastor, and his responsibility (unless you are attending their church, your spiritual walk does not fall under the responsibility of MacArthur and Sproul...although you may certainly benefit from their teachings...I do....but it is 'self-feeding' in that we are choosing their teachings and yet are not under their pastoral leadership).

I think that this is more a modern concept than a biblical one.

I left my local SBC church. I drive 45 minutes to sit under the teaching of a man who was an elder at John MacArthur 's church and used to be the Executive Director of Grace To You, Don Green. The man can expound God's word.

Evan, if you simply cannot make yourself go to your church, time to go elsewhere.

I wanted to get involved more at my church but we simply do not agree on many subjects so I am not allowed to teach there. We also do not agree on evangelism.

Its too bad it has to be this way, especially when I agreed to teach only from the KJV when allowed, but he and others there do not trust Calvinists as they are anti-Calvinist. Probably afraid I might make a Calvinist statement and then people would question the churches doctrine.

You don't have to teach, brother, but you can't be a part of a church without being a member of that body.
