A different divorce question

    A man divorces his wife -
    That wife marries another man, later her second marriage ends in divorce.

    According to Deut 24:1-5 - should her first husband consider re-marriage with his first wife.

    Remember, the OT marriage laws were to insure the priestly line remained pure (as a type of Christ). The word "adultery" has the same root as "adulterate." A Levite had to divorce his wife if she committed adultery because he could not be certain any child she bore was his and thus a Levite. Same reason he could not remarry her. He could never be sure that next child was actually his.

    Hi Salty,
    1) A man divorces his wife. Was this divorce in accordance with the commands of Christ, i.e. she had been unfaithful? If so, he is free to remarry. She is not according to God's word.

    2) No, since she is no longer qualified to enter into any scriptural marriage.

    Baptists ministers should refuse to remarry any divorced person.

    I don't think the divorce rules given by Moses apply to the church. Moses allowed divorce because of the hardness of people's hearts. That's a secular concern, not a church concern.

    I was in a similar situation. My wife divorced me and married another man and is now divorced from him. She now claims she wasn't saved at the time she married me or this other guy.

    Oh, I dunno. Seems to me "hardness of the heart" is a spiritual matter....

    Churches should play no role in legitimizing divorce for unbiblical reasons. Compromise with divorce is only a secular matter.

    Not what I meant to imply. I agree. What I meant was, "hardness of the heart" is a spiritual matter, and should be addressed in churches. And if it is, and God works through that preaching, then we might see a decrease in the motivation to divorce....
