The Dallas Morning News has endorsed every Republican candidate for president since 1964. But not this year.

    From: http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/editorials/20160906-donald-trump-is-no-republican.ece

Free markets? Economic conservatism? Ronald Reagan once said that "protectionism is destructionism." Trump, on the other hand, has called the Trans-Pacific Partnership "a rape of our country."

Businesses who invest overseas, he says, should pay a hefty fine on imports. (We'll leave aside for a moment his hypocrisy in pretending that investing in hotels abroad, as he does, is somehow different from a manufacturer investing in foreign car factories.) His protectionism would likely force the U.S. into trade wars, increase the deficit and sink the U.S. economy back into a recession.

Trump's idea of fiscal conservatism is reducing expenses by financing mountains of soul-crushing debt.

Strong national defense? Trump pledges to make our military "so big, so powerful, so strong that nobody — absolutely nobody — is going to mess with us." But what does he want to do with that military? He says he supports killing the families of Muslim terrorists and allowing interrogation methods "a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding." And if the military balks at obeying such orders? "If I say do it, they're gonna do it," he says.

His isolationist prescriptions put sound bites over sound policy: Invite the Russians into our elections. Bomb the Middle East into dust. Withdraw from NATO.

It's not easy to offer a shorthand list of such tenets, since Trump flips from one side to the other, issue after issue, sometimes within a single news cycle. Regardless, his ideas are so far from Republicanism that they have spawned a new description: Trumpism.

We have no interest in a Republican nominee for whom all principles are negotiable, nor in a Republican Party that is willing to trade away principle for pursuit of electoral victory.

Trump doesn't reflect Republican ideals of the past; we are certain he shouldn't reflect the GOP of the future.

Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president and does not deserve your vote.

Neither were the 2 candidates for the democrat nomination democrats. That's today's politics.

"Republicans" aren't republicans and "democrats" aren't democrats.

People keep expecting republicans to be conservative. They're not now and haven't been for a long time. And they never will be again. They're are democrats, or what democrats used to be.

People keep expecting democrats to be liberals. They' aren't now and haven't been for awhile. They're far left of there. They are outright socialists , marxists and communists and they all hate America and everything it stands for.

And yet you expect conservative to roll over and vote for Republicans. That makes no sense at all. As long as Conservative and Evangelicals give their vote to the Republican party no matter what, they will be ignored by the republican party. For me, Trump and Reince Priebus have made it clear they neither want nor need the Conservative vote and I'm happy to oblige them on that one issue.

Absolutely! Without a viable 3rd party candidate, I'll do whatever it takes to keep Hillary out of office. That includes standing up for America and our way of life, not rolling over and giving up like you are.

She is, without a doubt, the most corrupt individual to ever run for president as a major party candidate. This country will never recover from a Clinton presidency. The constitution will be gutted by her ideological SCOTUS appointments.

Well from my chair you're the one who is rolling over and giving up, by also voting for a candidate that has shown contempt for the Constitution as well. The 3rd party argument is a self-fulfilling one

Videos of contempt for the Constitution:

So yes please continue to tell me how Trump who has shown pure contempt for the Constitution on more than one occasion is going to safe guard it. Just so you know though, I'm not buying what you are selling, especially when you just admitted that the Trump party is not conservative.

The Country will never recover (as far as I can see, God can do amazing things though) from either a Trump or a Clinton Presidency, but I will not be an accomplice to either one. But if you want to give up on Conservative principles that is fine, just don't expect the rest of us to go down without a fight.

I'm not saying Clinton isn't corrupt (she obviously is).

But I would say that it's far from clear that she would be the most corrupt major party candidate in American history. We have had a LOT of corruption over the years, stretching even to the Founding Fathers, depending on how you define corruption.

I don't think the hyperbole helps. Reality sufficiently condemns.

This was posted on BB years ago.

Yet there are people now claiming that "we'll never recover from a Clinton presidency" while they trust that Trump will save the USA.

Ah, yes. The "vote for the lesser of two Democrats" argument. Brilliant.

It is still in doubt that we will recover from the Obama disaster. And he hasn't been able to install a majority of left wing activist judges on SCOTUS...yet. Hillary will complete the destruction of the constitution that he has started.

That's a different question. Awareness of corruption is different from corruption.

Especially in the 1800s, we really didn't know much about candidates anyway. Perhaps Rutherford B. Hayes would be an option from that era, but he wouldn't pass the awareness test.

JFK would be a possible candidate in the modern era, but his father was probably the source of almost all the corruption.

JFK himself, in regard to being told he's "going too far," said, "They [reporters; the public] can't touch me while I'm alive--and after I'm dead, who cares? He knew that White House reporters would not disclose that he brought other women into his room(s), because didn't 'tell all' back then if they wanted to keep their jobs and their privileges-- this after old Joe had his stroke in '61 and could not control what the press said about the Kennedys any longer.

Yes, but he wasn't a candidate at that point. Also, it's possible to argue that covering up one's affairs with the press isn't exactly corruption but rather straight immorality.
