This is not conservatism. This is more government in our personal lives, more dependency, more free stuff. This is Trump being Bernie Sanders.

On the Dr. Oz show today:

OZ: So what do we do with the folks who fall through the cracks?

TRUMP: We have to go and help them through the Medicaid system. We have to help them publicly. We’re going to have to do it. Nobody wants to see people — and it’s totally unfair — a lot of people said oh, gee that’s not the thing to say. I said, well you know what? If I can’t say that, I’m not running for office. There are people who say everybody should have a great, wonderful, private plan, and if you can’t afford that, and there is a percentage, a fairly large percentage that can’t afford it, then those people don’t get taken care of. That’s wrong. We’re going to take care of that through the Medicaid system. We’re going to take care of those people. We have no choice. We’re not going to let people die on the streets.

He seems to be rehashing a lot of stuff Obama has said or done. His family seems to like to plagiarize.

If this were any other candidate besides Trump I get the feeling that there would be howls of "foot in the door" and "slippery slope" towards single payer health care system in reaction to his announcement to expand Medicaid. But, even with over 30 views there is not a peep on BB.

So? Everybody knows Trump is not a conservative. If elected , he will be the most liberal Republican to hold office since Richard Nixon.

He's not a libertarian either but then neither is Gary Johnson.

So, it's the first step towards a single payer system. Expansion of Medicaid was basically Bernie Sanders' plan to cover everyone.

I guess I better accept the fact that so-called conservatives are going to vote for Trump so long as he can trick them into thinking he will pick conservative SCOTUS judges and will build a border wall. Otherwise he can say or do anything and they'll still vote for him.

BTW, speaking of SCOTUS judges, Trump said recently that the list he published last spring is subject to changes.

Then you would be accepting a lie as fact. I'm voting for Trump to keep Hillary out of office. Period.

Wrong again. If there was anyone else who could keep Hillary out of office, I'd be there. We are already on "the slippery slope". Obamacare put us there

Yes, it is. It is the compassionate conservatism of Bush the elder.

Nobody can honestly deny there is a healthcare crisis in this country. A huge proportion of our population is either uninsured or under-insured. How can that situation exist in the arguably richest country in the world?

The healthcare industry has become the cash cow of the rapacious mega-corporation monopoly. The richest corporations in America are not, as is commonly assumed, the banks. The richest corporations are the insurance companies.

Our healthcare system is broken. Obamacare was not the answer. All Obamacare did was force people to buy over-priced insurance policies from those same mega-corps, and fine the people who couldn't afford the huge premiums.

We need a multifaceted approach to fixing the problem.

    1. Allow insurance companies to sell medical policies across state lines to increase competition. (The restriction was passed due to insurance companies lobbying congress to limit that competition so insurance companies could have a "captive" population that had to deal only with certain companies.)

    2. Provide a single-payer system for those who do not wish to partake of the above or cannot afford the above.

    3. Roll the VA, Medicare, Medicaid, and other government systems into a single payer system.

    4. Limit the percentage of expenditures on administration. Keep the lion's share of expenditures on medical personnel, not administrators.

    5. Means test the single payer system, charging those who can afford to pay co-pays and percentages (#2 above who wish not to buy private insurance).

I have gotten all my health care from the VA, a single payer system, for the past 17 years. I have received excellent care at minimal cost. (My income in sufficient that I pay co-pays, but those are deducted from my monthly military disability payment so I don't actually pay anything. But I am a disabled vet with a service connected disability so the rules are a little different for me.)

Our attitude ought to be that of the Good Samaritan. We help those who cannot help themselves. And we don't complain about the cost. We can't serve God and mammon!

To clarify, you would vote for anyone who was running against Hillary? Is that correct?

Anyone who wasn't worse than she is. (Which is just about every person who was running on any ticket from any party.)

This would slow the pace of annual rate increases for a few years until a couple of states created favorable conditions for health insurance companies to locate there. This is what happened with credit card companies when Delaware and South Dakota legislated the highest allowable interest rates. A few states could establish higher caps on annual premium increases and health insurance companies would flock there negating this ability to sell across state lines.

Then no one would participate in #1. There would be no private health insurance companies. I'd bet that Democrats would insist that no private health insurance companies could exist alongside the government system, just as it is in Great Britain and Canada.

We get it. You're in favor of government run health care. Rationing. Waiting lists. Dumbed down, same as everyone else's doctor health care.

Throw in government regulations on pay and price controls to boot!

More and more government intrusion. Anything else? You're on quite a roll!

I see. The government as the charitable institution. Single payer system means steal from the people (oops, I meant to say 'tax' :)) that have the money and give to the have-nots. Classic wealth redistribution.

What's to stop someone from seeing every problem through the same lens? The private sector is failing at making affordable, quality automobiles. Maybe the government should take that over. People that can afford it can pay for them, but otherwise there ought to be a way to get anyone that needs a vehicle into one. What about dental care?

Sorry, but "I'm voting for Trump to keep Hillary out of office. Period." sounds a lot like you'd vote for anyone. How about:

    George Pataki?
    Michael Bloomberg?
    Jim Gilmore?
    John Kasich?
    Jeb Bush?

Try as I might I just can't seem to convince myself that my conscience, my principles or my personal feelings are more important than the preservation of our constitutional republic for future generations of Americans. There would be no coming back after eight more years of Bill and Hillary.

This election isn't about me. It's about those who will still be here long after I'm gone.

Pretty much nailed it. It's a shame. And this again is why when conservatives talk about their "conservative" moral values, folks just put it on ignore.

You're spot on. if David Dukes was the nominee, they'd be making the same backbends to justify support of him.

    1. You don't know that. It is merely your fantasy. 2. The ability to sell across state lines would not be affected by government's approval of higher rates. The market place would regulate the rate. That is what happens when there is free competition.

As most of the people who are employed and enjoy healthcare coverage as part of their compensation package (most gainfully employed people, the majority) the insurance companies would continue to be profitable. Just not to the level of extortion.

No, I am in favor of helping those who cannot help themselves. If you like paying huge premiums for your health care please, feel free to continue. But don't sacrifice the poor on your altar of entitlement.

I never mentioned any such thing, but it is clear you have to make up untruths in order to counter my suggestions.

What do you suggest to solve the healthcare crisis in this country? At least I have offered a suggestion. What have you offered?

Once again you make things up. Shame on you.

In case you failed to notice, in this country WE are the government. Did the school you attended not teach anything about American history? Here, a little reminder, "That government of the people, and by the people, and for the people should not perish from the earth." There, remember now?

We, collectively, the people, establish the fund that pays for those who cannot afford to pay.

Your greed is showing. That seems to be your only objection. You don't want to exercise Christian charity. You don't want to love your neighbor. You want to worship mammon.

Classic Christian love for his neighbor. Try it some time. You may find out you like it.
