What version do you really dislike?

What little I read of it, I would say the ISV is my least fav version.

The International Standard Version (ISV) correctly translates Psalms 4:1, rather than the mistranslation God of my righteousness, it has my righteous God. It also has enlighten at John 1:9. The ISV has selfishness rather than hostility at 2 Corinthians 12:20. The ISV has pleasure rather than purpose at Ephesians 1:5. Romans 2:8 reads selfish pride in the ISV, rather than the mistaken self seeking. The ISV at 1 Peter 2:2 has grow in your salvation, rather than the mistaken grow up into salvation, making it sound like they were not quite saved. Thus the ISV appears to be better on some verses than the ESV.

Out of the translations I own and have used, my least favorite is the Good News Translation.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the New World Translation

I left it out because of its obvious bias. The two I mentioned at least tried to sell themselves as "orthodox" translations.

Aside from the cult-specific versions such as the NWT & Clear Word, etc. my least-fave I've ever seen are the gender-specific NIV, The Message, Cotton Patch, and Living Bible. There are others I don't/won't use, but those come to mind at once.

Oh, I see. You would prefer a generalized indefinite gendered version.

I like the word for word translation types (NASB, NKJV, LEB) and I am not fond of those at the other end of the spectrum. But one must always keep this in mind, a person needs a translation they can understand. The KJV was pretty hard for me, but the NASB95 bridged the gap so I at least thought I was understanding the text. So it is easy to find fault with say the NLT, but imagine the number of souls it has helped bring to Christ because they could understand it.

Well that rules out all English translations.

Least favorite - KJV - it's time we started quoting verses in a modern English.

Best response ever! Anyone who knows anything at all about Hebrew and Greek and translation knows that every translation uses dynamic equivalency. Even the hyper-literal ASV uses dynamic equivalency on hundreds of occasions.

I can't name just one that I dislike the most. The Mess, NRSV, The Living Bible - not a fan of those.

The NRSV is not be classified with the other two. In the words of D.A. Carson : "The NRSV is a jolly good translation."
