    I'm trying to figure out if I want to read through the Bible again this year (I have a 5 day reading plan which works much better for me) or if I want to dig down deep into one book and I figured I'd see what everyone else is doing!

    Personal plans - read and study the book of Isaiah with the plan of teaching it by September.

    The pastor is teaching through Genesis each Sunday.

    Men's Saturday morning group will be studying through 1 and 2 Corinthians.

    Wednesday's group is currently going through Exodus.

    I've never been able to discipline myself to stick through a "read-through-the-bible-in-a-year.

    I've done it a few times but it's been more of a "read through the Bible in 18 months". LOL There are definitely days I don't read my Bible even though I know I should. So I tend to get a little behind but I'm thinking a 5 day plan might be better to give me 2 days to "catch up" each week, you know?

    Or I got a reader's New Testament that I may read through a few times. I like not having the headings or chapter breaks. :)

    Going through the book of John this year (school calendar) in Bible Study Fellowship. I have found this to be a wonderful, systematic study of Scripture, as we go through a book each year. Highly recommended. Over the past few years, we have studied Relation, Genesis, Acts and Isaiah.

    I try to roughly follow the liturgical calendar and my yearly reading schedule began the week before Advent. I've come up with an expanded lectionary based on when certain books have been traditionally read (eg. Isaiah during Advent, Jeremiah during Lent, etc) and filled in the gaps.

    As such I read the NT twice per year, the Psalms four times a year (once every thirteen weeks rather than the more ambitious monthly cycle) and the rest of the OT (w/the DCs) once a year.

    Granted, at this pace it is tempting to try to plow through it (and sometimes zone out) just for the sake of subconsciously "checking it off", but God in His grace still shows me new stuff each time through.

    Well, since I'm not finished with my chronological Bible from 2016, I'll finish that first before picking a new plan. I've got a couple of other study bibles that I haven't used that I might use after I finish the one I'm on.

    My Bible Study group is going verse by verse through the whole Bible [yes, I know that's going to take a while :confused:]. I work on those study notes about three times a week, trying to incorporate scriptures from all over the Bible that pertain to the scriptures at hand. We are all learning so much.

    I'm reading through the entire bible cover to cover and so far it's been 13 months and I'm in Lamentations. I'm not being strict enough with myself but I am making progress each night.
    I also read from the NT each morning M-F for about 15 minutes in my work parking lot. Once I get to the NT in my nightly reading I'll probably jump to where I am in the NT.
    I also read my devotional each morning, takes 2-3 minutes. I find those early morning readings prepare me for the stress and people I have to deal with each day.

    I don't have a bible reading plan.

    I read for personal enjoyment.

    I read for professional development.

    I read for preparation of sermons and lessons.

    I'm not Scarlett but I found the chronological reading plan to be amazing - putting things together that should be together like Samuel and Psalms and stuff. Really helped me to understand a lot more of the Old Testament and the New Testament letters.

    Yes, I do enjoy this format and for the same reasons that annsni noted. For example, when David was hiding from Saul in the cave and you can read the psalm he wrote about it in the that context - it makes the psalm more alive. It's nice to read everything in context.

    But don't take it to Sunday School or church because you will have a hard time looking some references up as it is not in the usual order. I found that out the hard way. Confused

    I also picked up the Chronological Bible but gave it to a friend after I used it so now I just print out a reading plan that is Chronological and use that with my regular Bible. I LOVED having it all set up in the Bible though so I could just pop in a bookmark and be ready!

    Thanks for your informative responses annsni and Scarlett. If I go that route next I'll just use bookmarks. I just replaced my ribbons with 6 new ones.

    I read through the Bible from start to finish once a year. It involves reading about 3 chapters from the OT and one chapter from the NT every day. I'm looking forward to starting Genesis and Matthew again on Jan 1st.
    More detailed reading comes from sermon and Bible Study preparation and from participation in discussion forums. :)

    I follow the Lectionary (daily assigned readings) which includes a reading from the OT (and a Psalm), Epistle reading and a Gospel reading. Following this lectionary I go through the entire bible within three years (and the Psalms twice a month). The readings are designed to relate to one another. This works well for me. I love praying the Psalms and since following this lectionary I now have many of the Psalms memorized.

    I have used The One Year Bible which comes as a set of bible (NKJV) and a companion study/commentary.
