    Press Release
B&H to Launch Christian Standard Bible (CSB) Version in 2017

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (June 21, 2016) B&H Publishing Group announced today the completed revision of the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB). Renamed the Christian Standard Bible® (CSB), the text will be available in a full line of Bibles for readers of all ages, with initial products releasing March 2017.

    Comment:
I rarely used the HCSB. I felt that it was "quirky". The use of Yahwey in the OT bothered me just as much as the over frequent use of Messiah in the NT.
When I write I rarely capitalize the pronouns for deity, so artificial IMO.

I'll have to look over the Christian Stand Bible when it comes out in March and spend some time in its pages.

    Rob

I'm interested in the beer reference. Specifically the type of beer. Some types of beer like original lager requires a cold climate for reducing spoilage. Pilsners came later and lessened the refrigeration requirements. Bottom line, I'd like to know what time of beer was used in horror climates.:)

I will be picking up a copy. Unless my Olive Tree updates from HCSB to CSB be for free. Then I may just look at the electronic version until I form an opinion on it.

The ESV is my primary, but when I prepare a lesson or sermon, I read from multiple translations. I regularly use NASB, NIV, NKJV, and HCSB. But honestly I have been using the HCSB less over the last 6 months or so and the NIV more. My last 3 sermons I haven't even looked at the HCSB. I don't dislike it, it just wasn't bringing anything to the table of preparation. Next week I'm preaching in a more traditional/ old school church. So I am looking over the KJV as well. I like to know what the audience will see in their Bible.

"'When I first heard about the Holman Christian Standard Bible, I was not excited about it,' Mohler said. 'I think in many ways there are too many translations, and having one more translation is not necessarily a great thing. [However,] the changes in the last several months have convinced me that in the end this is an important thing for Southern Baptists to do -- if for no other reason than that we will have a major translation we can control.'"

I was in the market for a study bible, specifically, though now their notes are available alongside other versions.

I was looking at the ESV study bible, or possibly a Ryrie NASB, and then the HCSB study bible came out, so I picked one up. And I have been real happy with it these past few years.

Yep. It is actually quite important. As liberalism infects and spreads through the churches and seminaries, expect the transaltions to be come liberal. Without conservative control of Scripture, more versions like the Queen James Version, would likely take hold. The Bible is becoming just a book in many seminaries and churches. They won't care to alter the words.

Please understand, my everyday Bible is a paperback printed in 1989 NIV. My come to meeting one is a NKJ/ Bigger print so I can read it without squinting. most churches around here are weird regarding translations (IE anything goes)

My first introduction to study bibles was an Oxford annotated required for an Old Testament class at a state/secular college.

I liked the concept, but wasn't so sure of their theological positions.

That would have never flown with me since I was a RC for 34-35 years of my life. What Ive learned, Ive learned from self study because nobody here is willing to do bible study real well......so I get by with what I have.

That's a rather far-fetched idea. Versions like that will never go mainstream.

Yes, it was actually the introduction of the TNIV and the threat that it might take hold that drove Mohler to hop on the HCSB bandwagon.

Are you actually saying that the QJV and TNIV are similar threats? If so, you are in LaLa Land.

It not that far fecthed. When the church started its liberal movement they never expected lesbian pastors and gay marriage to be accepted. Even liberals 10-20 years ago were solidly grounded in traditional marriage. Now it is expected in liberal churches. Inerrancy in the Bible is becoming frowned upon. The largest SBC church in my county is looking for a pastor. The search committee has stated they don't want a guy who will preach the inerrancy of Scripture. To assume the liberalization of the church will not effect future translations is not a matter of possibility, but a matter of time. They will seek to alter the meaning of Scripture.
