Just curious if anyone reads/has read/ or just remembers the New English Bible?
Except for some obvious 'errors' (imo) it has interesting wording in many verses.

I never read it. I only read reviews of it. It's too liberal for my taste.
I love the successor though. The Revised English Bible is superb. It uses eloquent English.
The ESV team needs to pay attention.

The REB however does botch up 2 Timothy 3:16(which is a crucial verse to get right). Allowing for inspired and non-inspired Scripture, which then allows room for people to deny any verse they want by saying "that teaching in particular is not inspired."

It is not as literal, nor as accurate as the Esv!

I would not recommend the NEB to anyone. Stick with the NASB.

"the act of making atonement" vs. "an atoning sacrifice"? What is wrong with either? Is this some 'taught' doctrine that means it's worthy to be 'picky' enough to argue over? Never heard of the difference before. Will have to read up on that.

“Christianity…is an historical religion. Some religions can be indifferent to historical fact, and move entirely upon a plane of timeless truth. Christianity cannot. It rests upon the affirmation that a series of events happened, in which God revealed Himself in action, for the salvation of men.” C H Dodd

Dodd did not like the doctrine/concept of God pouring in an active sense his wrath upon Jesus for sins, as the sin bearer....

Like the Fake News of CNN, the Fake Theology of Penal Substitution, where the sins and foreseen sins of the Elect chosen before creation were laid on Jesus, is without support in scripture. Liberal love to read between the lines, redefine the meaning of words, and otherwise bend the text to their man-made doctrine.
Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, each and every one God transfers into Christ.

I agree the Revised English Bible is far superior to the NEB, but neither is as good as the LEB or NKJV or NASB.

penal substitution had better now be fake, or else none of us are saved here, as Jesus was not our sin bearer then!

More twaddle, more fake theology. Nothing in scripture supports Penal Substitution. Jesus as the Lamb of God became our sin offering. Anyone and everyone God places into Christ is washed with His blood, thus being justified forever.

It had such a bad review from evangelical protestants that we didn't look at it. We have one, though.
That was in the days when only the AV (KJV) was accepted.
The fact that a modernist, Dodd was in charge of the translation team discredited it from the start.
