Central Baptist Theological Seminary Receives ATS Accreditation

LOL. I had to check it out since there's another Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City which I doubt would pass muster with the majority of folks here...

 

Do you think this will help their growth? I've heard their student body has been decreasing in recent years.

 

Thanks. This is a good analysis. The further they head into broader evangelicalism, the smaller their fundamental support will be--and it's not as if the conservative evangelicals needed or wanted more seminaries. (And I think I know the personages you mean.)

 

Yes they would not pass the test. I tried to find Jesus's name on their website...it was a challenge!

Thanks for your comment. I realize that we don't have a traditional belief statement page. That's part of the reason that I offered to answer any questions anyone may have about the school. Hopefully most people will understand that my comment wasn't a shot at anyone, but instead was a legitimate offer to enter into dialogue instead of making statements from opinion.

 

I am authorized to speak as a standing faculty member and alumnus, but not on behalf of the board or the leadership. That does not stop me from being able to express what I understand/know about the school, board and leadership.

I like the quote from TCAssidy. I have no desire or inclination to argue with anyone about anything. But I will happily engage in conversation that helps me to better understand someone else or help someone better understand me.

 

I'm a tad confused now. You're a professor at a seminary in Kansas City, KS, AND the pastor of a church in suburban St. Louis (ironically two blocks from a seminary of another denomination...that I attended for a couple years)? Man, your frequent flyer miles must be something!

 

As the one who made the statement about not "pass muster"; most of the folks here tend to be very conservative if not downright proudly fundamentalist. As a former student at your church's neighbor down the street (Eden Seminary), I'm somewhat familiar with the differences between the perspectives of the two schools of the same name. It wasn't meant as a slam, but just as a statement of "your mileage may vary".

My travel miles are increasing. I/my family lives in St. Louis and I commute back and forth between St. Louis and Shawnee. I am at the campus 3-4 days a week. The rest of the time I'm in St. Louis. It's not the ideal situation, but for the most part I'm living my dream. I have the opportunity to teach/mentor students, write/research for the multiple books that I have under contract, and I'm co-director of a research institute that has its official launch later this year. In addition to that, I'm still serving in traditional ministry as pastor of a local congregation. Best of both worlds. The opportunities to teach/work at a Baptist seminary/school in St. Louis are limited. I do teach as an adjunct at Missouri Baptist University, but there I teach Art Appreciation (In addition to degrees in ministry, I have also earned an MFA).

I'm very familiar with Eden. I serve as a field education supervisor for them and supervise one student per year.

Thanks for your statement. I didn't take offense to your original comment. I have been a member of BaptistBoard for a while, and have been a silent observer for a lot longer than that. I come from a fundamentalist background, attended a fundamentalist Bible Institute (Brookes Bible Institute in St. Louis), graduated from a fundamentalist college (Calvary Bible College in Belton, MO) and taught at Brookes several years ago. I understand that Central in Shawnee does not meet the standards of some/most people on this board. My original comment was only to say that if someone wanted to know what Central in Shawnee is about, there's no need to make assumptions when someone on the board is actually involved there.
