Our founding fathers were an interesting mixture of theists, deists, and 18th century humanists. Geo. Washington was a free and accepted mason. He had fraternity brothers.

"In God We Trust" is on our money. But that does not mean there were many real Christians(born again believers following Jesus according to the scripture) at the signing of the Declaration of Independence. T. Jefferson seriously revised the New Testament according to his own philosophy. These folk were probably more secular than Christian. Nothing new and still going.
A lot of this is a fulfillment of: "having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof." IITim.3:5-7.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

The vast Majority of them believed in God, whether as a deist or as Christian, and they all would see the principles to govern our land as being derived from Holy Scripture themselves!
NOT as Muslims do, as would have freedom of worship. but as guiding bedrock principles to live by!

Secular? No. I'd say America was founded to be Christian, at least in a nominal sense.

To say these gentlemen were Biblical Christians is a real stretch of the definition of a follower of Jesus.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

We were founded on biblical guidelines, to be a people who were to follow the morality of the scriptures, but not set up as Israel was to God!

The masons follow GAOTU, who is not Jehovah. GAOTU is whatever god you like. Geo. Washington was a Worshipful Master. Go figure that one.

Jefferson shredded the New Testament accounts of Jesus The Christ and followed a Jesus of Tom's own philosophy.

Crank that morality out over 240 years and you get what you find today: amorality is rampant.

Man knows not how to get it right of himself. His false gods, including himself, continue to lead to the ditch.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the Lamb and purge my heart by Thy Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of Thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in Thy fear, and dying in Thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of Thee and Thy son, Jesus Christ.

The rights of the colonists as Christians…may be best understood by reading and carefully studying the institutes of the Great Law Giver and Head of the Christian Church, which are to be found clearly written and promulgated in the New Testament.

    John Quincy Adams

    SIXTH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES; DIPLOMAT; SECRETARY OF STATE; U. S. SENATOR;
    U. S. REPRESENTATIVE; “OLD MAN ELOQUENT”; “HELL-HOUND OF ABOLITION”My hopes of a future life are all founded upon the Gospel of Christ and I cannot cavil or quibble away [evade or object to]. . . . the whole tenor of His conduct by which He sometimes positively asserted and at others countenances [permits] His disciples in asserting that He was God.6

The hope of a Christian is inseparable from his faith. Whoever believes in the Divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures must hope that the religion of Jesus shall prevail throughout the earth. Never since the foundation of the world have the prospects of mankind been more encouraging to that hope than they appear to be at the present time. And may the associated distribution of the Bible proceed and prosper till the Lord shall have made “bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God” [Isaiah 52:10].7

In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior. The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity.8

Charles CarrollSIGNER OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE; SELECTED AS DELEGATE TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION; FRAMER OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS; U. S. SENATOROn the mercy of my Redeemer I rely for salvation and on His merits, not on the works I have done in obedience to His precepts.21

Grateful to Almighty God for the blessings which, through Jesus Christ Our Lord, He had conferred on my beloved country in her emancipation and on myself in permitting me, under circumstances of mercy, to live to the age of 89 years, and to survive the fiftieth year of independence, adopted by Congress on the 4th of July 1776, which I originally subscribed on the 2d day of August of the same year and of which I am now the last surviving signer.22

I, Charles Carroll. . . . give and bequeath my soul to God who gave it, my body to the earth, hoping that through and by the merits, sufferings, and mediation of my only Savior and Jesus Christ, I may be admitted into the Kingdom prepared by God for those who love, fear and truly serve Him.23

The great, vital, and conservative element in our system is the belief of our people in the pure doctrines and the divine truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.24

Shame on you, using original source documents instead of relying on revisionist history books.
