Bill Gates and Android Phone

    I have to get my MS jabs in once in awhile:

    It's official. Bill Gates himself switched over to an Android phone as his dwindling windows phone is no longer made. Good choice, Bill. But... he said that it has "a lot of Microsoft software". Yeah well, Ol' Bill will now have the modern pleasure of running some good apps that Microsoft has without all the malware considering it's now on an Android operating system-- no longer needs to fear a virus just by turning it on or clicking a link. He can concentrate more on human viruses and his inoculations lol (after all,who would know more about them than Bill Gates? Certainly not Steve Jobs or Linus Torvalds). He does have Windows desktops at home, however. Although he called Steve Jobs a "genius", Gates still won't have anything to do with Apple which, BTW, is why his computer stuff is the way it is. Nothing wrong with a Mac or iphone.

    Nothing at all unless you like being kept in a straitjacket of Apple's operating system. If you like limited customization of your phone according to what Apple and only Apple deems worthy. If you like higher prices for the same technology. And if you like your iPhones being a year or more behind the cutting edge of Android phones. For example, Apple just implemented wireless charging for their iPhones, something Android has had for what, four years now? Dual cameras? Android's had them for over a year.

    I'm not an Apple fan boy as I only have an iphone. But it's Steve Job's tight ship that keeps the malware out. But I have an Android tablet and desktop computer. I also have this Google Chromebook and also Linux Mint desktop. If you want to experiment, then Linux is the way to go. The rest is what I jokingly call "Commercialized Linux". I love them all, but my point is they are not Microsoft.

    Steve didn't run that tight a ship. There's malware for Apple products; just not as much, nor as widely reported on, as for Windows.

    Yeah, if you consider literally a million to one a problem. If the operating systems were airplanes, Microsoft to Apple respectively, there's a difference from all airplanes going down (it's just a matter of when) vs one having an accident occasionally but most will see the junkyard and live out a normal life. Or again, how often one eats vs how often one wins the million dollar lottery. Both can happen, but the latter probably won't while the first will happen all the time. Apples and oranges. Yes, Steve did run a very tight ship.

    If Macs became the foremost PC, then you can bet your money that there would be more viruses. As it is, Windows using computers are in the vast majority, making them the prime target.

    And before we get into discussion about which system is the foremost, there really is no discussion. Every game ever made today plays on Windows. But most people either can't play the video games they want on a Mac, or have to wait for a port. If Macs were even half the population, video game designers would career to them more.

    As would malicious software.

    I saw Bill admit to it on Charlie Rose. Shame.

    I have a Windows phone and really like it. The drawback is that there aren't enough apps. That's not really a problem with me; I can find most of what I want. I've been with Windows since 3.1, and I like that Windows Phone works pretty much the same way as all Windows apps do. And I've got Word right on the phone.

    Android is a hot mess. Lots of apps but a squirrelly operating system. Sure, you can get used to it, but why?

    Can't see the reason to spend what Apple wants for an iPhone. If I need real computing power, I have my laptop and desktop (and the Windows laptop is much more powerful). Or my Surface.

    MS missed out on the phone business. By the time MS got serious, the market had passed it by.

    I know you said you're not an Apple fanboy; but I deal with this topic on a daily basis. If someone doesn't have an antivirus program on their Apple device, they're an idiot.

    Whatever happened to Apple's "it just works" motto? I've spent the last couple of weeks looking for solutions to cast (not stream) Apples, Android, Windows, Linux, and other OS' on a TV. The Android and other devices connect without a problem; for iPads, iPhones, and other Apple devices, I have to buy an Apple TV, or a >$1,500 all-in-one device. I tried some cheaper devices and some web-based services; but they all require the device being cast to be connected to the wireless network domain, which doesn't work for visitors (because we don't allow access to the network, and therefore personal information, without a signed agreement and allowing us to set the appropriate security policies on your device).

    Apple these days just works...if you pay for the extra hardware so it can just work....

    I'm a believer in the saying, "The proof of the pudding is in the eating." statistics aside. Experience shows the truth in something. Had Android for going on 4 years now. Had an iphone 4 years and on the second one. I had Linux even longer. And this chromebook for almost a year. I have yet to catch a virus on any of them. So where are they? Microsoft -- many viruses (not as many as the average person since I know what I'm doing) but I had some doozies without my intervention that as much as wrecked the operating system. That's why I gave MS up altogether.
