I tried to add a touch of serious humour to a thread, and it was denounced, & I was attacked personnally:

The actual topic- preterism - is being discussed elsewhere but -
I would appreciate comments on Lewis Carroll's thesis.

I have several times given a link to Lewis Carroll's discourse on liguistics. Let's apply what he wrote:
'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

The rest of the thread relates to the topic =====================

How did Matthew introduce the word "generation" ?
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ arefourteen generations.

    With Strong's numbers:
    at 1:17 - So G3767 all G3956 the generations G1074 from G575Abraham G11 to G2193 David G1138 are fourteen G1180generations; G1074 and G2532 from G575 David G1138 until G2193 the carrying away G3350 into Babylon G897 are fourteen G1180 generations; G1074 and G2532 from G575 the carrying away G3350 into Babylon G897 unto G2193 Christ G5547 arefourteen G1180 generations. G1074

To suggest that "generation" means the whole Jewish race is an absolute violation of the way Jesus uses the word as recorded by Matthew.

But you could understand as race in the sense that the Jewish race for all spiritual purposes ended in AD 70 as the centre of the God-given religion was utterly destroyed. The Kingdom of God centred on the Lord Jesus Christ no longer had a rival setup in Jerusalem & the temple.

    As Jesus prophesied:
Mat 21:43 - “Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it.

Not a gentile nation but the holy nation comprising Jew & Gentile as one redeemed people of God.

And Peter, quoting Moses warned & proclaimed:
22 For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. 23 And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ 24 Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days. 25 You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ 26 To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities.”

And 5,000 Jews responded. They formed the prophesied holy nation.Exodus 19, 1 Peter 2.

These comments followed - all posted anonymously here =====================

    A 'friend' asked them:
"Do you always resort to personal attacks when someone doesn't agree with you?"

I'm not laughing, but I still think that Humpty Dumpty is well represented on the forum as seen in those comments.

LOL! ROFLOL! The "Alice in Wonderland" theory of bible interpretation! LOL!

Carroll (Dodgson) wrote in the genre of literary nonsense (rather like preterism), and was a pedophile. Excellent person to support your twisted theory of bible interpretation.

How is that relevant to what covenanter posted about the writings of such man. Satan even believes in God, So we shouldn't because Satan supports it?

You are really getting your "support" from a writer of literary nonsense and a pedophile? Wow. You will defend anything to support your unsupportable nonsense! That is really sad. :(

Support of what? The fact that words can be made to mean so many different things?

Yes. Your idiotic "it means whatever I say it means regardless of what it says" method if interpretation.

We don't need to resort to attacks when disagreed with.

I didn't attack. I correlated the pedophile Carroll's literary nonsense to your similar nonsense. Contrary to both you and the pedophile Carroll, words mean things.

The only thing I have done is used Scripture to interpret Scripture. The OT "comings" to interpret Matthew 24.

What do you use for interpretation? If OT language is nonsense?

Does this mean you are abandoning your recommendation of the Pedophile Carroll in support of your literary nonsense hermeneutic?

I didn't recommend anything. I've never even heard of this before covenanter posted it. But I do believe it is very interesting. Regardless of who wrote it

The bible does not mean what it says nor says what it means.

I believe it means what it says. I'm not the one adding 2000 year gaps in anything.

Dodgson obviously loved children, loved to tell stories, write them into the stories. I enjoy cuddling my grandchildren and reading stories with them. Does that make me a paedophile?

Today we can buy personalized story books. All good fun, and children learn when learning is fun.

Why look for slander? Paul encouraged the Philippians to think on all the good things.

I posted this in the humour section. It seems Humpty Dumpty dominates the BB forum.

THAT is why you always disagree with those of us who post Scripture to support what we believe and teach.
