    Anybody read these novels? Thoughts?

Stories are about a retired marine sniper who served in Viet Nam and is lured out of retirement and subsequently gets involved in various stories of intrigue. I have not read them. I heard about him when a local talk show host was praising the novel, "The Third Bullet" where Mr. Swagger, using his background as a sniper, gets involved investigating the Kennedy assassination.

I've since learned that the first novel, Point of Impact was made into a movie named "Shooter" starring Mark Wahlberg in 2007.

I've read and enjoyed Point of Impact (1993) and Time to Hunt (1998). Decent character development and a story that will keep you interested. I've re-read both preferring Time to Hunt.

The first season of Shooter was really good. It was a lot like 24 used to be, before it got all politically correct. The second season, not so much.

About the only good thing I can say about the movie version is that Levon Helm is in it.

Finished "Point of Impact" on Saturday night. I thought it was real good. A somewhat lengthy book, but the pace and flow of it never let up. Lots of twists and turns--some I saw, some I didn't see. Learned a lot about sniping, and bullets, LOL.

BUT...retroactively analyzing the plot after a day or two of thinking on it, which I am wont to do, leaves me with some questionable plot points. I don't want to spoil anything for others who might want to read the book, but if you guys want my thoughts I will post them and warn others to stay away from this thread if they plan on reading the book.

I did see that Shooter, the movie, was on SyFy this weekend. I tuned into a portion of it that was in the timeline I had already read in the book. For comparison's sake I watched about 10 minutes of the movie. Man, the part I saw was nothing like the book.

Time to Hunt is book #3 in the series. Shouldn't I read Black Light next? I like to read a book series in order so I'll probably read them all, if my library has them all.
