I witnessed a fight in progress behind the cashier's area here in China 30 minutes ago. It was the first time to see an actual fistfight here. I broke them up, not because I am physically imposing, but they probably stopped because they didn't want the old foreigner to get hurt. Everyone else was just watching, mainly females. They had been really going at it fast and hard. But unlike America they were not dismissed from their jobs.

They are sturdily built guys around 200 or more pounds -- not the stereotypical image of weak and slender lads shying away from physical altercations.

Don't get the impression that I in favor of their pugilistic endeavors at the workplace --I wasn't. Just thought I'd share something unique here.

Since there was no smiley-face I have to assume you are being honest.

    Are you a do-bader?

Do you enjoy watching people get battered that are not in a professional ring?

If you saw a woman being beaten by her boyfriend or husband would you just go on your way without interceding on her behalf? Would you tell yourself "I don't want to be a do-gooder."

Don't you think that the Bible enjoins us to do exactly what you have castigated? Shouldn't we be doing good? Should a true Christian follow your advice?

We don't want more of your kind in the world.

I confess I do enjoy a good fist fight now and again... but no, I would call the cops....that’s what we pay them to do

Ever the self righteous Calvinist I see! Look at me everybody, I broke up a fight ... I’m a do gooder. I can even spin yarns of how others can’t measure up to me and we don’t need the likes of you around. Well there is real Christian virtue for you. So the next time you do that snip and someone in a rage pops you in the back of the head... but then why bother talking to snip you. Just get off your soapbox and call the cops next time you feel the need to be Batman snip.

So think it's perfectly acceptable for a full on fight to take place in a place of business? We are to ignore the possibility that one or both individuals could be seriously hurt --perhaps even one of the female staff in close quarters?

Along with taking a full-on non-Christian stance on this --you don't make any sense on a practical level.

It seems like you are playing the Devil's Advocate.

Were there cops in the area? And are you to ignore that it is you that may have been hurt or killed? Really Rippon!?!

Is that like Cat Nip? Seriously no, but at the same time I am very realistic & practical. I know a guy who stepped into a fight was pronounced DOA the next half hour of a knife wound.

The two dudes in China were probably just practicing their wushu (武術), their martial art, not having a real fight. They do that a lot over there, and that may explain why the other customers were not concerned. Wushu is often called kung fu (功夫) in the US, but that actually means "trained strength," and is a term used for the martial arts only in Hong Kong in the Chinese world.

Wushu has many ways to "practice fight." One is to learn a two man "form," which is a series of memorized moves. To the uninitiated, this looks exactly like a fight. To see what this looks like, on Youtube, just search for "kung fu two man form" and enjoy. These forms can be practiced at a furious rate, and one miss means a bloody lip, something I've had doing one. (Back in the day, I knew several of these, and my partner Bobby and I did them often for public demonstrations. One from Pai Lum Kun, 白龍拳, was over 200 moves, and another from Hung Gar was about 100, I believe.)

There are several other ways to "practice fight." The Wing Chun style has "sticky hands," which I've done in Japan and Hong Kong with other Wing Chun practitioners. Other Shaolin styles have similar drills. Tai Chi Chuan has "pushing hands," as do other styles. (I learned a Shaolin method of this.)

I once went to a boxing match in a small venue where I sat ringside. My conclusion was that the "art of boxing" is pretty brutal.

I was trained in it in my Ute....I view it as a highly organized discipline. Did you ever go to Madison Square Garden and see the Golden Gloves tournament? They don’t blegon (sp) the kids .. they go for points thru skill vs ringing the kids bell. I consider that sporting.

That's absurd. They were angry with one another and the female staff were alarmed. One of the guys came up to me later and sheepishly said he was sorry.

I didn't not say a thing about the customers.

How would I know. It would have been too late if they had continued with as much anger as they had for one another.
I was just trying to do the right thing. Of course you invert reality and the Scriptures to your own satisfaction.
