Did your church do anything special in honor of MLK day?

    Why or why not?

As it is a day off for many of our members, we use it as a day of prayer at our meeting house.

Ours did not. It is not the Lord's Day, so I do not know why we would or should do anything. Nothing special is done for Memorial Day, July 4th or Veterans day either and that is as it should be.

Nope. We partook of the Lord's Supper, which we had scheduled for the previous Sunday, which got snowed out.

And our pastor was out, as his first grandbaby had been born Saturday night. So our youth pastor preached the message. I hadn't had a chance to hear him, previosly; seemed like every time he was at the pulpit I had to work.

Perhaps the greater question is why a conservative Baptist church should specifically honor one who was not only know to be theologically liberal, but also to have questionable morals (i.e., in relation to being a serial adulterer).

Leave the celebrations to the secular governments and let the church retain its own integrity.

Why would you? He was a hypocrite of epic proportions. Communist, womanizer, adulterer. If only they would unseal the FBI file on him!

I want to add the day of prayer has nothing to do with MLK. It's simply taking advantage of the day off given to our membership.

The thread was not "What does your church do to celebrate Columbus Day?".

Nor was it the (and I knew this was coming) listing of all King’s sins which all of a sudden are a big deal just not for our President who is revered around here.

His sins are very important when you ask me to celebrate him at church.

Right, nor do they celebrate his sins on MLK day. So why bring them up?

You celebrate the man, you celebrate his sins. We are not talking about stuff he did as a kid. This is stuff he was in the middle of at his death.

I’ll remember you said that. It’s just funny. Oh it’s MLK day and now we want to talk about infidelity all of a sudden.

What are you talking about? Why would we be discussing Hillary Clinton’s sins at church?

Infidelity of a "reverend." A little different. Kind of like when a businessman gets caught with a prostitute, no big deal. Now, when Jimmy Swaggart got caught with one.......
    See the difference?

She is thinking about becoming a Methodist minister.
