I just called a church in Tenn for the radio ministry I work with.

The call was answered by a recording.

What I found interesting was that during the course of the call, it was mentioned
that if you need assistance with obataining grocries - you would need to attend
a worship service and than attend a class afterwards.

    Good, Bad or indifferent

Way back in the day, my wife and I would receive free food from a program called SHARE in San Diego... I would volunteer to sometimes pick it up and hand it out but there were no strings attached... Its true most of the location were various churches where the food was handed out but it depended on your locale... It is my personal opinion that if you picked up food at a certain church and felt drawn to the people of that church, you might want to attend service... There were no strings attached... Can I be a good Samaritan without expecting something in return?... I feel when I do for others as scriptures teach I am doing it to my Lord... That should be our only purpose and not if I give you food you are obligated to worship and attend a class afterwards... I should be invited not coerced... Anyway that is how I see it... The coercion may seem subtle but it is still coercion... Brother Glen:)

Bad. The intended audience of a church worship service is the church. I believe the assembly is to equip and uplift the saints. Reaching out to the community and meeting their needs while sharing the gospel is a ministry of the church. So I'm all for requiring those receiving food to attend a class where the gospel is explained. We are not Democrats, after all. :Speechless

The feeding of the 5000? One was rewarded after the preaching.

No problem with the attending services requirement. That's what I call a "rescue mission" rule. The class is a bit too much for the initial handout.
