Music Standards

That behavior should be the goal of a mature Christian, but you can't change the heart by enforcing a behavior rule.

 

Not a reasonable standard as almost nothing "in the world" can pass the test.

Going out to eat at a fancy restaurant?

Buying jewelry?

Going to a sporting event?

Going shopping for an expensive suit for that upcoming job interview?

Apply the same tests to these activities and tell me the outcome.

I think if we practice Paul's admonition for pure thinking, it will help us choose the right music.
“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Corinthians 10:5) (KJV 1900)

I practice this 24/7 (if I wake up in the middle of the night). Just as people with TVs or radios change the channel when something offensive flashes before them, I change the channel on any thought that runs across the grain of Christ. And this alone is the key to inner peace and happiness.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on thee: Because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3) (KJV 1900)

 

I think some of these questions could be helpful, but on the other hand I think the answers toward a particular piece of music could vary quite a bit according to the person answering the question.

I'm not sure how this would help make particular music choices. Even the finest most doctrinally sound hymn put to the most fitting music of the highest class -- excellent, God-honoring music -- would need to be given up if comes between the singer and the Saviour.
