OSAS does not survive the "Sola Scriptura test" in Matthew 18..etc

Christ Jesus is the "elect" of God:

Thus, those who accept and keep that which is offered of God, in Christ Jesus, are 'elected' with Him.

Christ Jesus is the "predestinated", the "chosen" of God, the Father's "elect". Thus, those ultimately found "in Him", having accepted and keep to the "call" made to all mankind, are those whom God knew, from before [Romans 8:28-30 KJB]

Matthew 22:14 KJB - For many are called, but few are chosen.​

There is a "diligence" that is needful upon our part, as it was in Genesis, to "dress" and to "keep" that which is given:

A "seed" is not a "tree", until it grows up and bears much "fruit". The "seed" [Christ Jesus] planted [received] in the soil of the heart must be watered, nurtured and receive of the Sun of righteousness, and the winds and showers of the Holy Ghost, otherwise, it becomes like the following seed:

Jesus' entire life was to do one thing. Plant the seed. There are some who never receive the "seed" [Matthew 13:19 KJB], but there are others which did "receive", but by various means, some "become" unfruitful, for they had "believe[d] for a while", but in process of time "fall" away, and thus are good for nothing, but to be cut down, and thrown into the fire. Some might "dureth for a while", but they did not so unto the "end".

Have therefore, "patience" of the "saints":

Luke 8:15 KJB - But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.​

Dealing with error of 'OSAS' [Calvinistically]. They misunderstand predestination, and who the elect is, and then self-define themselves as automatically saved, and self-determine the lost.

Secondly, consider Matthew 22 KJB, in the 'investigative judgment' by God, for though many did accept the invitation, not all actually came with the right garment, Christ's righteousness:

Daniel 7:14 KJB - And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

Isaiah 62:4 KJB - Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.

Therefore, God has an investigative judgment, in which He is "to see" who among those that have accepted the invitation, are worthy to remain. Two groups [both professing].

 

Jesus is Israel:

[1] Israel after the flesh which are not the children of God [Romans 9:6-8; 1 Corinthians 10:18 KJB]; [Head, ruler, Jacob, son of Isaac] Genesis 32:28, 35:10,21; [body, peoples] Genesis 32:32, 35:22; Israel, the person, is as a “king” which is a head or ruler [Joshua 11:10; 1 Samuel 15:17; 1 Kings 1:35, 1 Chronicles 11:2; Psalms 105:20 KJB], over a body or kingdom/land [Isaiah 62:1-5 KJB]. The two [king & kingdom/land] are two things, yet joined, as husband and wife, or Head and body, Father and children, etc. and

[2] the Israel after the Spirit, Jesus Christ, and His children and body [Galatians 6:16; Hebrews 10:13; Romans 9:8 KJB', as it is written, first the natural, then follows the spiritual [1 Corinthians 15:46 KJB].​

But if we consider Isaiah 56:1 KJB, and ask who is "my salvation", and "my righteousness", we can go to the NT texts and know that it is Jesus [Matthew 1:21; Luke 2:20; Acts 4:10,12, see also Isaiah 46:13, 51:5,68,8; Psalms 119:172; Isaiah 48:18]. Then if we jump down to Isaiah 56:8 KJB, we see that it again refers to what Jesus is doing in the NT, as per its fulfillment in John 10:16 KJB. Then all one has to do, is to go back, and read the context between Isaiah 56:1 and Isaiah 56:8, by reading Isaiah 56:2-7, which mentions the "everlasting name", God's "my covenant" [which is the eternal, everlasting and also called New Covenant], and who is to join themselves unto the LORD, the Gentiles.

Thus for the fulfillment of those Isaiah 56 passages, we turn again to the NT, and read Matthew 10:25; [Malachi 1:6]; Luke 6:40; “... the Gentiles are turned to God:” - Acts 15:19 KJB, “That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called ...” - Acts 15:17 KJB, not to cast away the Tabernacle of David, no, but to build it up, see Acts 15:16-17; Amos 9:11-12 KJB, for God had winked at the ignorance of all men in the past, but now commands all men everywhere to come to Him in repentance, and come into obedience to His Law, see Acts 17:30 KJB, see Acts 4:24, 14:15-16; Revelation 10:6, 14:6-7; 2 Peter 2:21; Revelation 12:17; 14:12, 22:14 KJB.

Then compare Exodus 20:8-11, especially verse 11, and align it with Nehemiah 9:6, Psalms 146:6; [Jews] Acts 4:24; [Gentiles] Acts 14:15-16; [all peoples] Revelation 10:6; 14:6-7; and back again to the Gentiles repenting and coming into obedience unto God's Holy commandment [Exodus 20:8; 2 Peter 2:21 KJB], in Acts 13:42-44; Acts 16:13, 18:4,11; Acts 15:21, 17:2 [compare Luke 4:6 in language]; 17:3-4; and also in Hebrews 4:2,4,9,10; Romans 11:26; and then follow it to Isaiah 58:1,12-14.

If that analogy is about the saved losing their salvation then the finished work of Christ was not necessary because we can pay our own debts. Not only was it not necessary but the cross was a cruel joke on the Son if this is about the saved.


No it is not about the saved, but rather the kingdom of God. It is dealing with one aspect in an answer to Peter about his question on forgiving someone who sins against him.


For us to be saved we must have ALL our sins paid for, not just one group or area or one time in our life to be forgiven. We are NOT simply forgiven if we are saved. We are bought with a Price, the blood of Christ. Salvation forgives not simply our sin, but the person for being a sinner.


The kingdom of God is like unto an earthly king's kingdom. All the people, houses, animals, land, everything that is within an earthly kings kingdom is considered his and all the people are his servants whether they agree with him or do not agree with him. Whether they are fully submitted to him or not fully submitted to him they are ALL his servants who he can do what ever he wants to with them or to them.


The same is with the kingdom of God. Everything is part of His kingdom. The saved, the lost, satan, demons, hell, EVERYTHING!


In the parable the man was not saved. It does NOT teach that. It teaches one thing in his life was passed over/forgiven. He experienced the same mercy we all do as lost and still alive. The king forgave one aspect of his life a very large debt he had toward the king. However it was only for THAT debt alone, not ALL debt. Salvation is for ALL debt, not just one.


The king did not resend the already forgiven debt. He acted on a new debt. Those in Christ cannot accrue new debt because our debt is fully paid. Every sin the saved do goes toward the payment that Christ paid, not toward us.


The teaching is that even the lost experience some of God's forgiveness as He does not wipe them out the moment they sin. Just like the rain falls on the just and the unjust. ALL are part of God’s kingdom and our place of eternal existence/residence, can be seen in how we deal with others who have sinned against us.


The parable is NOT suggesting we get saved, right with God, by forgiving others nor is it suggesting once we are saved we can lose that salvation. It is simply a parable by which we can examine our own hearts against our own lives toward our fellow man.


Forgiving everyone will not get us into heaven, but if we are of those who refuses to forgive everyone it is an evidence we are not (saved) on the road to heaven.

 

To be "born" does not mean "immortal", it means to be birthed into. All things which are "born" may [the possibility of] die, because it deals with "faith", the "believing":

John 11:26 KJB - And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?​

God does not do the "believing" for you, but gives the gift of faith to us, and like all gifts it may be cherished, spurned, neglected or cast away. It is not a mere instance of faith, but it must be an ongoing [a living] faith. It must be "h[e]ld fast" [otherwise it is no longer faith, and thus by wavering, lose it]:

Hebrews 3:6 KJB - But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

Hebrews 10:23 KJB - Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised​

A "born again" person, must "breathe" [Ezekiel 37:9 KJB, etc], and so take the "breath of life from God". To cease to breath, is to die, spiritually.

Read Romans 8 again:, notice that word "other" [which leaves ourselves]:

Romans 8:38 KJB - For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Romans 8:39 KJB - Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Isaiah 59:2 KJB - But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.​

Christ's righteouness is not a cloak for a single unconfessed sin. Forgiveness is provided for all, but do not let presumption enter into the picture. Look at King Saul's history:

1 Samuel 10:9 KJB - And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

1 Samuel 15:11 KJB - It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

1 Chronicles 10:13 KJB - So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;​

 

Yes, you can pay for your debt, but you cannot live afterward. Wages of sin is death. You can pay this penalty, you just won't be able to live after payment, just as one who has paid their debt to society, for the crimes committed, by execution.

Jesus finished laying the foundation at Calvary - the perfect character, the perfect life, the perfect sacrifice and substitute, the perfect example. It was/is a perfect beginning. He is the Cornerstone. There was/is much more for Him to do in His ascension.

Jesus has life within Himself. He could pay, and take up His life again. You cannot, having not life within [inherent] yourself. If you pay, you will cease to be afterwards.

God is even now taking account of His servants, beginning with all of the 'professed' dead, from Abel, even until now [Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 14:6-7 KJB], and soon it will pass to the living [Revelation 3:10 KJB].

 

Read again, it is all the old and the recently accumulated:

Matthew 18:24 KJB - And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.

Matthew 18:32 KJB - Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

Matthew 18:34 KJB - And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

Please notice, that the "torment" does not stop until the debt is paid. Death.

Notice, "patience", "after", "shall", "was sanctified", "cast not away", "live by", "draw back", "believe to". Paul is citing numerous OT texts.

 

Judith, I am sorry to have to disagree with you here. Jesus Kingdom is not of this world, it is a spiritual kingdom.​

 

Hebrews 10, is contrasting the multiple animal sacrifices, which could not purge the conscience of sins, with the one, single, and permanent sacrifice of Christ Jesus, which can cleanse the heart from sin, going back and forth from the example to the reality:

Hebrew 10:1 KJB - For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

Hebrews 10:3 KJB - But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

Hebrews 10:4 KJB - For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

Hebrews 10:6 KJB - In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

Hebrews 10:8 KJB - Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

Hebrews 10:11 KJB - And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

But there was an infinitely greater sacrifice provided in the body of Jesus Christ:

Yes, Jesus perfect and singular [one, once, etc], unrepeatable, sacrifice and His shed blood, is what we are sanctified through, which could not be done through the multiple animal sacrifices or their blood. Notice the New Covenant, in which the Law of God, the Ten Commandments, are to be written upon the Heart, citing Jeremiah 31:31-34, Ezekiel 36:25-28 KJB, etc.

"remission" is forgiveness of those sins which are "past":

Romans 3:25 KJB - Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;​

It does not give an automatic pass on sin committed beyond that point of justification. Forgiven sins may be uncovered, unforgiven, as Matthew 18, etc reveals, since they are not yet blotted out, until the end of the anti-typical Day of Atonement [Revelation 14:6-7; Acts 3:19 KJB]

Thus, since the "past" sins are forgiven, and remitted, we can have confidence in God, and there is no more continuing sacrifices [such as the animals] to be made, since that single one sacrifice was all that was needed:

Hebrews 10:18 KJB - Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Thus fulfills the prophecy of Daniel:

Daniel 9:27 KJB - And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

That Jesus did this, does not negate the necessity of obedience, to the Law which He magnified in His death:

Hebrews 10:14 is no license to sin [being transgression of God's Law, the Ten Commandments, 1 John 3:4 KJB], which is the very antithesis of which Jesus came to do:

Hebrews 2:14 KJB - Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

1 John 3:8 KJB - He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

This is why Paul continues the thought in Hebrews 10, that even though we "are sanctified" "for ever" [that is continually, ongoing] through that one sacrifice [and need not multiple], so long as we believe in that sacrifice provided and in its cleansing power, otherwise, we can become those that were ["was"] sanctified, and become so no longer, and be "rejected":

Hebrews 10:29 KJB - Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

God's grace is the power of God unto salvation, in Christ Jesus, to bring us back into atonement, harmony, with His will, His Law, the Ten Commandments.

Christ's single sacrifice, sets the Christian apart for holy purposes and deeds, which is what sanctified means. it is to be an eternal doing by the eternal believing.

There were some already in Pauls' day, drawing back, and not gathering together on the Lord's day, the Holy 7th day the Sabbath of the LORD thy God, and through their disbelief, like Israel of old, could not be Holy:

Hebrews 10:25 KJB - Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

2 Peter 2:21 KJB - For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

The Holy 7th Day the Sabbath of the LORD thy God, is the very sign and memorial of the perfect Creation, when there was no sin in mankind and Redemption from all sin/s. Jesus lay resting in the Tomb, having "finished" His work which He came to do on the earth. Enter therefore, into the rest with Him, on the Day He sanctified, for in so doing, it means you believe in the sacrifice given in Him, and understand God's Mercy and Justice, upholding His Law and providing the way out of condemnation for having transgressed it.

 

David no place did I say Jesus Kingdom. I said as does scripture the kingdom of God.

Wages of sin is "death", not eternal torment, nor eternal existence as a sinner. Jesus paying the penalty - Jesus died, not suffered for eternity.
