But man DOES define marriage - even though God does not validate it. As I said - before - Man makes his own rules - even if they are wrong - and since we live in this society - it will happen. Granted we should do what we can - and since the Devil is the god of this world ( 2 Cor 4:4) it will probably just keep getting worse, until the Lord returns.

The question of the OP was about when a marriage is valid. That is the focus of my responses.
Yes, it will get worse, no doubt about that. I don’t look forward to it, though faith in God’s wisdom should cause me to be excited to see Him work in increasingly difficult circumstances.

Matthew 19:7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so
    .

God gave the law to Moses. Moses was the great law-giver. God gave Moses, the government, the authority to impose parameters on marriage.

I think that is stretching it a bit since at the time, Israel was a Theocracy.

Yet God did not approve of divorce. The authority was God's and Moses failed because of the hardness of there hearts. I do not believe God approved at all. Divorce is always about there desire. They will say I don't love him/her anymore. The truth is we are capable of loving even our enemies. There fore it is not because of a lack of love but desire. Truth is God wasn't in it.

So when did the government take over that role?
In the UK, I believe it was in 1837. Does a marriage have to be validated by a govt. or a church.

    The biblical defination of marriage.

Jesus Himself has defined marriage, and his view is the only valid one to go by!

Thats fine if you are born again -
But if you are an atheist - then it is the govt who would be the valid source.

That is a ridiculous idea. So if you are an atheist Scripture is irrelevant to you? I know in their mind it is but not in reality.

Why would an atheists use the Bible as a reference.
and what do you mean that the Bible in reality is relevant to an atheist?

Sure, he is a sinner whether he is an atheist or not - but otherwise......

    I never said they would.

We are under God's law whether we believe or not.

Now I am suddenly reminded of the Steve Martin bluegrass tune, "Atheists don't have no songs" (Google it and listen for a good chuckle).

But that of putting God front and center of your life from marriage to work , family, career, etc.
No matter what as He will always have a say in what you do.
Yes it will involve tough choices and challenges but choosing the way and will of the Lord will help out.

Yes, but Jesus is still Lord over all, and any society works best with it agrees and implements what He proscribes for human sexuality and family units!
