    Seminaries Reply to Baptist Press Query on Their Coverage of Martin Luther King Jr - "Whether the Treatment of King in Their Curricula Is Sufficiently Robust"

    "all six Southern Baptist Convention seminaries" assured Baptist Press that they are striving to present King as a model for ministry:

    GATEWAY: Leroy Gainey, J.M. Frost Professor of Educational Leadership at Gateway, said every Christian minister needs to know about King. 'At least during my lifetime, there is no greater Christian or Baptist leader that I can see than Martin Luther King," Gainey said....King also had sins and flaws, some potentially serious....'but he was an awesome preacher, an awesome Christian educator, an awesome pastor.'"

    MBTS: "King 'is celebrated' and 'his life and contribution is taught, at the master's level, in our church history and Baptist history classes,' provost Jason Duesing said in an email....'I classify him as one of seven 'chief theologians' in the Baptist tradition'"

    NOBTS "At New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, a required master's-level course on Baptist heritage studies King 'in more depth' as one of Baptists' 'notable pastors,' Church history and Baptist studies professor Lloyd Harsch said via email. King also is covered in an undergraduate class on SBC life, the seminary reported."

    SEBTS: "At Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, King is incorporated into courses on church history, ethics, pastoral ministry and public theology, the seminary said"

    SBTS: "he 'is covered in a number of classes ranging from church history to Christian ethics,' the seminary said."

    SWBTS: "At Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, King is covered in, among other courses, a class on the Bible and race and another on the Bible and moral issues, the seminary said. King's famous speeches and writings, as well as his practice of civil disobedience, draw focused study."

    And would any of these bother to mention cases of philandering, dissertation plagiarism, and theological views so liberal that he would not be allowed to teach at any of those schools? I have my doubts.

    Well he was a homosexual commie that didn't believe in Jesus according to his own writings...so sure fits in well over there I guess.

    I am done with the SBC. King was a whore mongering Communist. By good accounts, he had a thing for underage girls. So, by all means, he should be a model for ministry. Has the SBC gone bat crap crazy? So, I guess SBC pastors can have hookers on the side and be considered "awesome pastors." Bunch of morons.

    Thats a shame since he held heretical doctrines. I guess that should be overlooked since he was black. After all thats the main thing....right?

    More to the point, he went to northern schools for his graduate (Crozer) and post-graduate (Boston Uni) studies due to segregation.

    Neither school is or was a Southern Baptist one. As far as I know, he wasn't a member of an SBC church.

    Southern Seminary integrated in 1951, same year MLK finished at Crozer.

    Seems as though I had seen that one of his churches was dully aligned (SBC & NBC)
