Denying Ourselves.

I believe denying self is synonymous with the directive to crucify/mortify the flesh.
What then does this mean?

Acknowledge/confess our sins as the Spirit leads.
Walk after the Spirit - Fill our lives with scripture, prayer and fellowship.
Avoid evil. Periodic self examination, again as the Spirit leads.
Don't quench or grieve the Spirit.

 

The Lord commands that we make disciples and teach them all He commanded. In order to pick up our cross each day and follow Him, we need to know His commands. Otherwise going our own way would not conflict with the unknown. Lying is ok, divorce is ok, grumbling and fault finding is ok, and so forth and so on.
If we were given 2 hours to list the commands of the Law of Christ, would we score an A, listing more than 70, or an F listing less than 40?

 

How about 2?

Love God, Love one another.

 

Two would get an F. I would have thought the "Lord's Prayer" would make your list.

Seriously, this demonstrates a complete failure of all of us to follow the "all I have commanded" teaching. But if you were not taught the "all" and therefore did not know to teach those you helped disciple, the misfire continues.

1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

God is love.

 

Did Jesus did teach we were to live by one passage of God's word and ignore the rest.

But I see your point, you see no need to learn them all, just the big ones.

Denying our failure to learn all Christ commanded is "accommodating ourselves."
What did Jesus teach on that subject?

 

Pray like this:

Pray to the Father

and recognize His authority.

Ask for an understanding of His will,

and the willingness to follow.

Ask only for what you need,

and the wisdom to avoid needless desires.

Forgive anyone you think has sinned against you,

and ask for forgiveness for your sins.

Ask for guidance to overcome temptation, and

for insight to keep falsehoods and lies far from you.

Yes you caught my meaning and I understand yours. Where do we meet?
If you love (agape-love) someone you can't hurt them on purpose and whatever they ask its easy to give.

Matthew 11
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Christ's yoke contains many teachings and commands. He gave them all to us. They are light because we love Christ. They would be burdensome if we really loved ourselves ahead of Christ. But we can't follow them without study to learn them.

 

True we have the Spirit and the word by which we learn.
