Featured Do you tend to "mark your Bibles up," or do you prefer to keep them clean and pristine?

I have an Allan ESV, it is nice. Cambridge and Crossway Bibles are also nice.

 

I don't even dogear pages in fiction books. I like my books looking new and keeping them nice.

 

The best condition Bible that I currently own is 1979 1977 Nas edition Ryrie, in a special edition goatskin, and is the only one have really marked up.Since becoming a Calvinist ,some might say that I was trying to erase or cover up his Dispy notes even back then!

 

For the record, Reformed (as far as soteriology) and Dispensational thinking are not mutually exclusive viewpoints.

I think many Baptist fall under the term of being a "leaky Dispy" !

 

You actually have to have some dispensational thinking to be biblical. Otherwise you would have to believe there are still prophets today and God still speaks directly to humans today, and Scripture can still be given today.

 

I saw on a video where Dr mac and DrSproul discuss this, and Dr Mac said Dr Sproul was not enough Dispy, as in not at all. while Dr Sproul came back that Dr mac was way too much, as in any Dispy! they were laughing while saying it....

 

Yeah, I don't feel good about marking up the word of God. I have no scripture or moral argument. It is just me. I feel like I would be disrespecting God's word if I marked it up.

I have no issue with people who mark in their Bible. I understand why they do it and they intened no disrespect, they are just trying to draw truths from scripture.

Like you said to each his own... Comparing my KJV large print to yours... No way is it pristine but not like your picture, by no means... You could probably read 500 of the OT pages in my Bible and never see a mark or if there is one, you would have to look close, as you may miss it... Sometime when I see a mark or highlight or a scriptural reference in pen or pencil, I question why I put it there... Must have been some reason but I don't recall it now... My KJV is more or less for studying and reading, not for marking, until I feel the need, then I'll forget why I did it... I have plenty of references and the net, no need... Brother Glen

Btw... My Bible is one way and my wife's is another... She's a retired English Teacher and she marks everything, with every color under the sun... When she hands me a book or her Bible and says, you need to read this, I about go blind trying to see the words in between the colors of the rainbow... Well I know one thing the company that makes highlighters are not going to starve, any time soon... Oh well!... It is what it is!

 

Can you give us a few more words on "leaky Dispy'?

 

Years ago I thought it was wrong to mark or write in the Bible. I’ve since learned that I learn much more by writing and making notes in the Word. I see it as sharpening the sword. The more I dig in it and mark, the deeper understanding I get. I’m finding that line upon line and precept upon precept all tie together from Genesis to Revelation. I use the KJV.

I understand that the Word is all powerful and I can’t add to or take away from God’s Word. But the more I study and dig, the more useful and helpful it becomes to me. I apologize for the way that sounded, but I meant different than it sounded. Without knowledge and study I am dull in the Word. Hope this better explains what I meant.
