"Jack...was welcomed into Heaven by His blessed Savior and Lord who he had so faithfully served in ministry for over 70 years. Please pray for his beloved wife and lifelong ministry partner Rexella and their families as they grieve this immense loss and for wisdom as she and the Board lead the ministry in the days ahead."

I was never a great fan of some of the ways and teachings of Jack Van Impe. Nevertheless, may the Lord bless and comfort his family in their time of loss.

JVI had the entire KJV memorized. The closest thing to that is basketball great Jerry Lucas' ability to memorize 50 pages of the NYC phone directory in one sitting. ("Back in the day", pro basketball teams often traveled by bus, & Lucas would memirize phone boox to pass the time.)

I dunno how long it took JVI to accomplish his feat, but he did it! (The KJV is easier to memorize for many people than a MV is, as the KJV's English is not our ordinary speech.)

His wife seemed to be very nice and was no doubt very pretty while younger, and she seemed to be in awe in regards to how well he knew the scriptures!

He had an office next door to my Mother in Law where all of the mail came. The had a slot in the door for receiving the mail and would drop by 2-3 times per week to pick up mail

He did memorize a tremendous amount of scripture

I dont remember JVI stating he was KJO - but back in the day - the KJ was generally the only version that was used. Once, he started memorizing the Bible (in the KJV) it was just eaiser to stay with it. In fact, that is my thinking - I prefer to keep my memorization out of the KJV - as that is what used as a kid.

Same for the late Dr. J. Vernon McGee. While he preached from the KJV & made his "Through The Bible" complete Bible study course from it, he made it plain he was NOT KJVO, & at often took the time to explain what some KJV passages mean in modern English. He said he was led to Jesus from the KJV, & it was the only Bible version he had for a number of years.

Our church (4th Baptist, Minneapolis) was hub of Northern Baptist fundamentalism, housing Central Baptist Theological Seminary, et al. We had Jack and Rexella in for Sunday-Sunday revival twice in the 1960's. Their musical ability was only eclipsed by quoting the memorized verses as he preached. Inspiring to me as a teen training to be a pastor.

Noticed he went a little "off the rails" in later decades with his TV shows and with his dubious associations, so was loudly criticized. But not by me.

I'm SBC, but we always took note of Jack. He put the fun in fundamental.
