Hello everyone. So I'm going to try--try, T-R-Y--to be less of a little snip. I don't think intentionally getting on people's nerves just because they've been jerks to me is good for my witness. Y'all get on my last nerve, often, and I have a complicated relationship with this forum, but that's no excuse to be difficult back. Maybe that means I need to take more breaks away from this place, but if that's the case. Se la vie.

I used to have a ton of patience with people online and discussions online and always apologized if I lashed out in a moment of anger or frustration, or removed myself from the situation if a particular person was just....going to continually make it difficult. I need to get back to that mindset.

I'm not really conservative (but also feel out of place in the liberal camp), and I'm not straight. And I'm on a forum dominated by uber conservatives. I don't like having my salvation questioned over these things, or being treated as if I'm a lesser Christian for it. I do ask that you engage me without belittling me, and be willing to hear me out. But if not, oh well, I can't control you. I can only control my actions. (I can put some of you on ignore if you're truly insufferable, but to me that's a last resort.)

So, you want us to be nice to you and tell you lies. If you want someone to tell you that "not being straight" is Ok, Methodists might do that for you.

It’s tough developing relationships via a chat board.
It’s so easy to be less of yourself, to be rude, to be impatient and thoughtless.
It is easier to be nice when you see a person face to face.

    I’ll pray for you brother.
Thank you for your open frankness about your life situations.
The Spirit has shown you an area of your life that you want to change.
I will pray that through your trials God will grace you with patience.
I’ll pray that he might grant you strength to persevere through the change.
And I’ll pray that God might let his love grow in you so much that his love will shine out of you.

    Rob

Not taking my salvation into question would be a good start. And if you think being saved just takes away same sex attraction, you haven't heard from many actual people who experience SSA--including those who peddle orientation change.
Besides which. What exactly do you have a problem with? Me believing same sex sex is a sin? Me choosing not to act on my romantic attractions?

Plus. "Not being straight" can also mean aroace....or someone who experiences neither romantic or sexual attraction to anybody regardless of gender. Basically someone who has no desire for marriage and doesn't lust after others because they don't get attracted to others. Which, I would hardly think anyone thinks is "wrong".

Sexual attraction is a tempter for the majority of humans regardless of whether it is hetero or homo. The Bible is clear. Flee sexual sin. That applies to all humans no matter the attraction. But, God gives us a way to escape and Jesus atonement is enough to redeem us.

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

2 Timothy 2:22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

1 Peter 5:6-11 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

I'm asexual, so I don't experience sexual attraction or lust. I am romantically attracted to people though.

Normally I don't correct people on my gender, but. I am gril. I cannot have access to the men's forum.

Suffice to say. My views on SSA do differ only a little from the apparent forum status quo. I believe acting on SSA is a sin, but I don't believe attraction itself is a sin. I believe lust is a sin, but I don't believe attraction is automatically lust. I don't believe orientation change usually happens--that's not to say it can't, but just like God doesn't take usually take away someone's chronic illness, most of the time SSA isn't taken away. I don't believe that using words that describe my experience is wrong, or necessarily an """identity""" so much as a fricken description.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that about covers you guys' gripe with me? Because I've made it as clear as I can that I follow the traditional sexual ethic.

If you will study Revelation chapters 2 and 3. You will find that Christ is addressing seven churches, Christians. He is calling Christians back to disciplined holiness. And very stearnly warning the churches to withdraw from false doctrines. This is what, I personally, have been trying to get across to you and many others on this forum. True Christianity is not what we choose to make it to be. It is what the scriptures, God's Word, tells us it is. Yes we are all sinners saved by grace, but that does not give us license to come on public forums and promote false doctrine, contrary to the literal interpretation of scriptures.

I understand what you are saying. We are, by nature, bent toward feeding our own pleasures. Each of us have different pleasures of which some are explicitly called sin in the Bible. The temptation to sin is not a sin. It is our flesh fighting against the Spirit of God who indwells us. God tells us to bear each others burdens and to watch out for each other with our temptations. There is nothing wrong with sharing. (Although I would take this to my local body of believers who are in community with me..)

Galatians 6:1-10 Brothers,if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load. Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

    May God graciously sustain you.

Yes you are. God is not a coddler of the wicked. As in Revelation chapters 2 and 3, and throughout the Bible, God issues warnings and calls to repentance, and often judgment is dispensed upon those that refuse to heed His warnings. You apparently believe, and do indeed promote, approaching the perverse in a different way. Claiming that they will not respond to the way that God has utilized throughout the scriptures. YOUR WAY, is absent repentance and absent conviction, which leads to repentance. YOUR WAY, replaces the convicting work of the Holy Spirit with the work of sweet talkers, like yourself. True indeed is the prophecy that this wicked generation will not endure sound doctrine.

You are projecting. No one has said that God coddles the wicked. God is just. God is mercifully patient with all of us. We are all wicked, including you, xlsdraw. Do you think God is coddling you when he chooses not to strike you dead on the spot when you sin?
When we sin, God does call us to repentance. Sometimes we immediately repent. Sometimes we act like the prodigal son for a season, but the Father is waiting to welcome us home. Was the father in that parable coddling his son by waiting and welcoming the repentant child?
Neither you nor I nor anyone at the BB are sinless and able to judge another person's temptations. Instead, we are to bear each others burdens. Let us obey God's command and acknowledge we all fight against sinful temptations. Let us bear each others burdens rather than cast stones.
No one has said that God coddles the wicked and our sister is not saying she is in rebellious sin against God. On the contrary, she has stated that she is standing firm against her temptations. Encourage her to remain diligent in her fight and to keep the faith. God is faithful to provide an escape and help us flee temptation.

    Peace

Being tempted is not a sin. But this ssa is a temptation coming at you from the devil or demons, so it must be that you take every thought captive to Christ. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Which means you need to acknowledge that ssa, its source is of the evil one.

James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
