After a quick look. The letter to the Hebrews commonly credited to the Apostle Paul has in Hebrews 2:3, ". . . How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; . . ."
The Apostle himself heard and saw Christ, 1 Corinthians 15:8, ". . . And last of all he was seen of me also, . . ."

 

Hebrews author did not seem to see himself as being an Apostle!

 

Paul (if the actual writer of Hebrews) might only be talking about those who knew and heard Jesus during his public ministry, whereas Paul was one "born out of due time", hearing him only through a late post-ascension appearance.

 

I’ve always thought the Heb 2:3 proof text rather silly. By the same logic, Heb 1:1-2 indicates that the author himself has heard directly from the Son:

Heb. 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son ...

Indeed, those who oppose Paul’s authorship of Hebrews rely on much more substantial arguments than these, which to me are not entirely satisfactory.
