This article states that Ana-Baptists came to be in 1525 AD.
    Anabaptist

    1) Do you think that the Ana-Baptists are forerunners of contemporary Baptists?
    2) Do you think that Ana-Baptists believe are part of the family of Baptists
    3) Do you think that you could be comfortable in an Ana-Baptist church

The 1525 date comes from when Conrad Grebel baptised Georg Blaurock, Swiss Brethren who separated from Ulrich Zwingli when he would "reform" all the way on baptism.

I would give a qualified yes to your questions. I consider Anabaptist generally applies to anyone who believes in (re)baptizing adults who had previously been baptized as infants. Many Anabaptists have rejected the term, since they do not consider themselves rebaptizing anyone -- because those persons never had what could be considered biblical baptism.

A History of Anti-pedobaptism: From the Rise of Pedobaptism to A.D. 1609, by Albert Henry Newman is still a good book along this line, in my opinion.

    An early reference to Anabaptists:
Tracing the Cardinal Hosius Baptist Quote By Ben Townsend - PDF Free Download
The quote from 1563 places an early reference to Anabaptists in about 363AD.
"For not so long ago I read the edict of the other prince who lamented the fate of the Anabaptists who, so we read, were pronounced heretics twelve hundred years ago and deserving of capital punishment. He wanted them to be heard and not taken as condemned without a hearing. "

What should we expect? Satan excels in trying to make friends with us. A friend usually would come up to a "weaker" vessel (e.g. Eve) twist The words and/or attitudes of The Creator around to make it appear that THE One who made us & sent His Only Begotten Son to die for us (Thus guaranteeing our victory over THE Father of LIES!) so as to APPEAR as, get this, that he is our REAL God! He tried it with Adam & Eve, later on with Jesus Christ Himself, & with each and every one of us!!) Praise God that He has given HIS children not only His Word, but also the indwelling of God the Spirit!! Satan OUGHT to know by now that God (& HIS people!!) will ultimately prevail, but he's so persistent as to keep throwing his fiery darts our way. Problem is NOT what we think that we're losers; instead, it's WE who fail to use EVERY THING "Our Father Who Art in Heaven" gave to us to be victorious over him. As the old saying goes, "I've read the back of THE Book....and WE WIN!" but we aren't gonna win unless we take up the armor He's given us, and defeat him the same way Jesus did: "IT IS WRITTEN"!! ( "Can I get me a witness" ??!! ). A roaring lion really only roars to scare away other lions who're seeking his freshly-killed supper! Then he stuffs himself with his victory meal. Far to often, we, who are supposed to be conquerors flee from his roars rather than keep on to the victorious end (& I'm usually the one who leads the surrendering forces!!). God's Word tells us that we're in a race to win a prize we couldn't buy for ourselves. But we'll not win for Jesus & that great cloud of witnesses who're cheering us on if we give up & let the opposing team win. And how DO WE prevail? "And they have defeated him by THE BLOOD of THE LAMB and BY THEIR TESTIMONY"!! -- Revelation 12:11a!! .... (Insert here the song whose lyrics are: "Thank You, Lord for saving my soul! Thank You Lord for making me whole! Thank You, Lord for giving to me Thy GREAT SALVATION so rich and free!!) ;););):):):)

Ana-baptists are directly connected to Menno Simon's and pietism. Most modern Baptists come from Dutch Arminians and Calvinists. However, German Baptists who emigrated to Ukraine with Mennonites adopted similar ideas. The North American Baptist conference is quite similar to the Mennonite Brethren denomination.

Having taught Baptist history at CBC, I came up with three different schools of thought of how people interpreted Baptist History: (1) Those who simply ignore our history; (2) Those who'd merely lump Baptists along with other trouble-makers of the Protestant Reformation; and (3) Those who wish to learn from the testimonies of Christians outside the RCC. Take your pick. Either all of us are 110+% wrong, or the other conclusion(s). YOU HEAR THAT, "SOLDIER BOY"?? :):):) :Devilish:Devilish:eek::eek::Sleep:Sleep
