I'm not 100% certain if this is the Forum to ask this. If it's not, I'll yield to whatever our BB Administrators decide about this. Some years ago I figured that reading God's Word through in one year's time might be helpful to this novice. I used a book that actually had a OT & NT in it + some editorial comments that were supposed to apply to the "Text of the Day." While I did find some comments useful, most of them didn't really do that much to prod me to see more than what Bible texts I'd just read. Then a friend showed me some other books that did seem to do the job for me (Even though some dared to use some translations beside the KJV.) I settled on Tydale Press's "The One Year Study Bible" that came out in 2011. It not only had a OT & NT arranged to fit into a 365-day reading plan (Usually 2 OT, 1 NT, 1 Psalm, & 1 Proverb per day) Plus comments that made me consider how deeply I am applying what I just read, AND in certain places an expanded commentary on a particular text that may have confused folks about its cultural and/or doctrinal setting. What is unique about it was how often I'd come across the NT's "adding to" what the OT reading, e.g,, a part of the OT Law & how Jesus used that same law to challenge the "Know-it-all" mindset of the Pharisees or the Sad You Sees." Plus the challenges of the Psalm for that day and/or the accompanying Proverb. "You'd almost get the idea that the Holy Spirit knew what'd help me as one of God's children!" If YOU have a "Read-the-Bible-Through-in-One-Year" plan, I'd like to read what yours is.

Just a quick line that if you can get through 85 verses a day, you’re in good shape for once a year! :Thumbsup

I've read through the Bible at least once each year since I became a Christian. Some years, I began in Genesis and read through to the end by reading at least 3 chapters on most days.

More recently, I have typically started out by reading Psalms through and then kept track of what other books I have read as I read them until I have made it through. Most years, it has taken me around 7 months to finish the Bible.

Here's an example of The One-Year Study Bible's notes that shows its readers much more than just the text. The OT portion is Judges 15-16, & here's a part of what it has for notes on 16:19-20: "Delilah was a deceitful woman with honey lips and a heart of poison. .....We think Samson is foolish, but how many times do we allow ourselves to accept flattery, to give in to temptation, and love the wrong things? .... We can know all the right things, but if we don't show our love for God in our choices, we are just as foolish as Samson--even after the fourth time. Ask God to give you a heart that loves what He loves." (p. 456) The NT reading is John 2:1-25 & here's its comments on vs 1-2: "Jesus was on a mission to redeem all creation, the greatest mission in history. Yet He took time to attend a wedding and participate in its festivities. Weddings in Jesus' day weren't just an evening out--they were wedding festivals. Often the whole town was invited, and everybody attended. To accommodate so many people, careful planning was needed. To run out of wine was a great embarrassment to the host. .... We may tempted to think we should not take time out from our 'important' work for social occasions. But maybe the regular events of life are part of our mission. Jesus was willing to celebrate for a whole week because He valued these wedding festivities. They involved people, and Jesus came to be with people. .... Our mission at times can include joyous times of celebration with others if we choose to be intentional about them. How can your everyday life become a part of God's mission? Jesus was available to meet the host's urgent need for more wine. How can you make yourself available to meet someone else's need, just when they need it most? Don't underestimate the value of serving others in ordinary circumstances." (p. 458) May 2nd's reading also has Psalm 103:1-22 & Proverbs 14:17-19. This is why I enjoy reading Tyndale's "One Year Study Bible: 'Read it, Pray it, Apply it.'"

One thing I have personally found is that I always fail when I try to read the Bible in a year. For this reason, I now read it through every 60-65 days. I actually find it has been easier because it’s more difficult, if that makes sense. There are some good books that I can send you a link to if you’re interested in reading it through at a faster pace.

Fine if one is a speed-reader, but (& I know you already know this!) in your Tech Orders, the "Read it & heed it" does apply here. You're correct, though. A person can't get too much of God's Word....I've never yet met someone who died from over-eating the Bible!!:Biggrin:Biggrin:Laugh:Laugh:Roflmao:Roflmao:Thumbsdown:Thumbsdown
