Republic of West Florida?

I read in a Baptist newsletter where it is said that in 1810 residents rebelled against Spanish control and established the independent Republic of West Florida. It is said that this independent republic lasted 74 days and then was annexed by the United States.

Perhaps this may be mentioned in a state history of Florida in public schools in Florida, but I do not recall or remember that a typical history of the United States mentions this Republic of West Florida.

 

The link posted by 37818 provides that information. That link indicates that the counties were actually not in what is present-day Florida, which would explain why it may not be mentioned in a history of the state of Florida. That link also listed two books that concern this matter.
