Most of the functions in my community, including games at our 1 high school in the county, begin most things with prayer. Don't have a problem with it at all.

My Fire Department even opens every single meeting with a prayer asking Jesus to keep us safe on calls and to save those in our community that need it. Prayer should be involved in the opening of any activity IMO. To paraphrase God speaking through Paul, whatsoever you do, give thanks to the Lord.

To which god do you wish the invocation be addressed? I'm sure the Philistines would prefer Dagon while the Hittites prefer Baal.

    Whomever is doing the praying
All in attendance need to give proper respect
just as non-Christians should give due respect when a Christian prays.

Philistines? Hittites? Are those the names of school mascots? I’m sure those nations ceased to exist several thousand years ago. Do people still worship those “gods”? Are they living in America and attending high school football games?

    peace to you

Those demons are still worshipped, though I assume it is by another name.
Shall tribal schools start praying by their gods before sporting events? Shall the predominant Muslim schools pray to Allah? Shall the predominantly Asian schools pray to Buddha or Krishna? Unless you propose a casting down of the COTUS and the establishment of a particular Theocracy, how is it that you propose to which god the prayers are invoked?

    I agree

why does it have to be a show at the 50 yd line?

    or half court?

why not the 20 yd line?

    your teams bench?

    the locker room?

I am afraid some may do it to show spiritual pride or other reasons

If I'm not mistaken - the case in question - the coach prayed AFTER the game.

I don’t propose which “god” to be supported by the state. Let the state stay out of it and let people be convinced in their own minds.

    peace to you

The coach never asked others to pray with him and doesn't require anyone to pray with him. If a Muslim coach did that, I would have no problem.
