      As I was reading his book on "tongues" I was surprised that he was not a total cessationist. He was not "charismatic" but his position would be called today as a "soft cessationist". Meaning, that if there was ever a need for the gift of tongues then God can sovereignly give that sign gift.

        That's probably an accurate assessment. But I never heard him (sermons or privately) talk about a case where Acts 2 tongues (miraculous languages) had occurred to his knowledge.

      I'm just wondering how he divided bible history. Did he held to dispensations or divided by covenants? Or did he was divided history by old testament and new testament?

        Actually, I don't believe he ever divided Bible history. His theology was based solidly on Christology. He did not hold to dispensations as I said. He always considered the OT covenants to be pointing to Christ, and preached and taught them that way, as in his book "The Coming Kingdom of Christ."

      Hello Sir! It appears to me that John R Rice was a dispensationalist in his eschatology but not his ecclesiology. Also how did John R Rice view dispensations?

        John R. Rice was actually not a dispensationalist, and criticized the theology a number of times in his writings. His main objection was the belief that the church started at Pentecost, whereas he believed the main meaning of Pentecost was revival, and taught that the church included the OT saints.

        His position on prophecy was for a premillennial and pretribulational rapture, but he got this through his own study, not dispensationalism. So, he would be classified as historical premil. Thank you for asking.
