Piper has an article on his web site DesiringGod.org on this very subject. Go to resource library and click on taste and see, go to Feb. 07 I believe it's the first article.

That is great I have been on U-tube and have seen mostly junk. This was great. Although I do not want to see the Church suffer.

I've read some of John Piper's books, but this was the first time I have heard him. We should preach a "prosperity gospel", but not of course the one John Piper was dealing with; rather the one that preaches what Paul called "the unsearchable riches of Christ." (Ephesians 3.8) (I am not suggesting that we should ever call this true gospel "the prosperity gospel"; to do so would be to cause needless confusion.)

Thank you for letting us know about this video.

RE: John Piper and the prosperity gospel

Amen!! I loved every second of this!! I work with someone who believes in paying tithes, and don't get me wrong, I believe in giving money to the church, but if I don't give 10% of my earnings to my home church, am I robbing God? That person I work with believes it. Whenever we think that we have to give money to God to get money back, that makes God out to be a "stock-broker" IMHO. My God can do anything and everything(except lie) that He wants to. If He wants to bless me, He will, and not because I gave 10% of my wealth(little there is of it). I have heard Mike Murdoch preach about 3-4 nights in a row about "seed sowing". Next time any of you get a chance, watch TBN. Look at their surroundings. They have golden statues, lavish couches, chairs, carpet, etc. The preachers who preach that "I know times are tough, and it hard to make ends meet, but if you will send $2,000.00, God will bless you." They say this while they are dressed up in designer, custom made suits, that probably cost about $2,000.00-$5,000.00 each. Well, they may not cost that much, but they cost more than I am willing to pay. People who send money in, this is where it goes....straight into people's pockets. God, if I am wrong, please forgive me!! But I just don't believe in this prosperity gospel. God gave me Jesus, and that makes me rich beyond measure!

I agree with convicted1, we are not under THE LAW anymore. The Tithe was O.T. LAW. Now don't get me wrong, My Wife and I give what we can to out Church and I help out at the Church when I can. Tithe does not mean money it can also be volunteering your time at your Church also. Just recently we got an unexpected amount of money from our house refi, now about a week before that I had prayed asking for financial help and God came through. I took out 10% right off the top. I wasn't expecting the money so why not give more when I can.
If you give with a begrudging heart God doesn't even want the money.

    God Bless All:praying:
