Helen - Our barn situation is individual paddocks so the horses are all separated so that they can't USUALLY get to each other. But, of course, a nose reaching across to another reached out nose equals a big bite. The biter has been biting all of them whenever he can get near them. :( His paddock is right next to the big enclosed riding arena and often we'll turn a horse out into the ring so that they can run and get their goofies out but they ALL go over to see Bob and then Bob will take a chunk. He's a canibal, I tell you!

But fortunately Starr's nose is healing. It was REALLY bad for 2 days and we just tried to keep it as clean as possible and put on whatever we could swipe there before he pulled away. It started closing up but he keeps banging the scab so it opens up around the edges again. I'm sure today it will look much better than it did on Thursday when I saw him last. Poor boy! That nose is his eyes so it's got to hurt when he bangs it against something!

Ann, as long as there is no infection, tell them to get Desitin (the baby bottom cream) on his nose. It will prevent a lot of scar tissue and will help it heal faster. I have been amazed at how well this stuff does with animal injuries!

Good Monday morning to you all!

All right Helen, I'll confess! We've been considering another dog for about 6 months. Hammer was a wuss, but he barked every time someone came into the yard. The huskies look mean, but are more likely to lick someone to death than to bite and don't have a protective bone in their bodies. I have both of them in the front yard at the moment and the other day a total stranger drove up and neither of them bothered to uncurl themselves from their nap long enough to let me know someone was out there. Scared me to death when I saw a man's head walk past my window. The guy was just interested in an old truck we have, but still. I'm by myself and would like a dog that barks!

Anyhow, I am going to see the pups today (if the Humane society is open, they may not be open on Monday) and find out what they are mixed with. After doing a little research I find I may have dominence problems with a G. Pyrenees and my S. Huskies. The huskies settle their dominence issues without drawing blood, most of the time. The GP's however, don't back down! You can't have a same sex pair in same household from what I understand.

I can solve this problem by getting a male, but the males grow bigger than the females and I don't know if I can physically handle that much dog. Sooo, we'll have to see.

Puppy, house, school and sewing will take up my day.

    Ya'll have a good one.

MK, start training your puppy early. Our daughter and son-in-law got a male lab at about eight weeks old last spring. Adorable pup. They started working with him immediately and I was, honestly, shocked. Loki is about nine or ten months old now and is beautifully behaved. I am still shocked! Our daughter was gentle, consistent and they crate trained him from the start. He is getting bigger and bigger now, but is extremely well-behaved. Because our son-in-law is in a wheelchair, Loki is being trained as a wheelchair dog (remember when we trained Dusty that way and then found out he is forever carsick?), so he is allowed to go on planes with them and in restaurants, etc. At less than a year old he is acting like an old pro. So I pass that on about training a larger dog. I am very impressed by what my daughter and her husband have done with this pup. He is with them constantly, though, so maybe that is part of the deal.

By the way, FoG, "HI" back atcha. And stars don't hug very well and I don't twinkle very well, so, yes, Barry does know the difference! He's a smart fellow!

Actually, and this is a serious moment, that's true. We were talking the other day (no wise cracks, please...!), and discussing about 'two becoming one.' He is, seriously, the other half of me now. We have only been married seven years, but I cannot imagine life, or myself, without him. We are distinctly different people, but part of one whole. I can't explain it any more than that, but I am beginning to see what God meant in Genesis when He said the two shall become one.

So yes, when he walks into a room, especially if there are a lot of other people around, I definitely perk up! He is totally my 'better half' and I am always better when he is around.

    OK, joking can resume....

    No joking here Helen.

I can't think of a better example of that particular Scripture then what you just posted. God bless you and your marriage.

You going to submit it to the Life Application Study Bible as an application of that Scripture? A picture of you glowing when Barry walks into the room could be placed in the study note.

Helen: We had enough of 'power going to the head' with the OTHER lady adminstrator (not you!).

I will act just like I've always acted. [IMG]

Why, Rob, I'm surprised at you. I've never had any trouble keeping y'all in line. [IMG]

    Good Morning All,

The weekend was really busy and I was exhausted, but GOOD NEWS...Sissy won second place and she was just 3 points behind the first place. She did it without a reader. We are so proud of her. In two weeks they are going to have a "barn show".

Sue, that smilie is just a little bit disturbing! ;) Congrats though. I think you'll make an excellent admin.

Oh Helen, I had forgotton about crate training. We did that with Ava before she began insisting on staying outside all the time. We got Mishka as an adult and were lucky she was housebroken! I'll have to find the crate! We will absolutely housebreak him/her even though it'll probably end up being a mostly outside dog also. I like having them in with me on occasion. (we hide the guinea pigs when that happens!)

Labs are one dog I can't seem to get to liking. I've tried two different ones. One that we kept for a friend until a new home could be found and the other was a mix that we found being given away at Walmart of all places. I should have learned from the first one. That was the dumbest dog. I have three kids I didn't have to watch as much as her! The second on was quite a bit smarter, but also required a significant portion of my attention and wouldn't housebreak. Then the chewing started. I gave her all kinds of toys and rawhides but she perferred to chew on my lawn funiture, the deck, empty cans (if she could find them and she did!) and anything else she could get her teeth on. When she chewed through my pool cover, I had enough. I won't have another lab.

Its funny though, the huskies chew too, constantly, and dig holes, deep, deep holes. And constantly escape. Doesn't bother me a bit. They at least chew the things I give them to chew, they house broke easily, broke to leash immediately (no fighting the leash at all) and they love the kids. And they don't care if they are with me all the time. They had just as soon be out in the yard digging up the moles. :D

That's awesome! What was her score? What test did she do?

Helen - Thanks for the tip - I'll let Starr's owner know. I'll be down later and I actually have a tube of Desitin still here. The only problem with it will be that these two boys love to love - and will smear anything they're wearing right on you. LOL I came home with some very nice furazone on me last week thanks to Whirl deciding to get some hay out of my hands when I was trying to get it in his stall. LOL That stuff is awful and NEON GREEN!! I looked great at the grocery store afterwards.

<sniff> No puppy. :( I had finally made up my mind to try one and they had already been adopted.

I'm not too upset, since I drug my feet all day, even after seeing them. I figure one would have still been there when I took the girls back tosee them if we had been meant to have one. Another will come along.

Going to sew at church. See ya later!

    Hellllloooooooooooo!?

Empty in here. Where'd everbody go? Ya'll all scared that me an Helen will infect you with new pet mania? :D

Actually, I have a new person to blame this morning for our puppy incident. TLB quite encouraged me yesterday. So if I had come home with a puppy, it'd have been her fault! :D

Today I'm going bug catching with Chris, cause Cass has an insect collection to do by Friday. Dale is going to help her with it this evening. Isn't that sweeeeettt?

I also have to clear the yard for Halloween, put the finishing touches on costumes and do the housework I didn't get done yesterday cause I was puppying and sewing instead.

Since no one is in, I'm leaving a fresh pot of coffee on and there's juice in the fridge. Ya'll can make yourselves some toast with the homemade bread I left in the breadbox and you won't starve. Jellies and jams are in the fridge too.

    Ya'll have a good Tuesday!

that is it...blame your friends. if i encouraged you to jump off a bridge would you??? lol...sorry...just had to! if i can't have a puppy you having a puppy would be the next best thing.

i much rather be clearing the yard for Halloween and decorating with string, (that you can feel but not see :D) with orange and black streamers, bales of hay holding carved pumpkins... instead i will be spending the day/night on my mother's sofa...and her house smells due to cig smoke, giving my children Halloween gift bags as i can't take them out, J has to work and my parents are not in any shape to walk the neighborhood. well....my mom is too grumpy and my dad isn't in the best of health. lol...the thought of a 65 yr old man, who only had one child, taking 6 children out to trick-or-treat is funny!!

<pout> i will have to spend the night there, it will be easier for dad to drive me to my appointment from his house <pout>...yes, only child syndrome is kicking in.

ewwww....you know some of us are trying to eat our breakfast! it was a failed attempt at best. sorry guys, looks like breakfast is self serve today.

Don't you just hate it when kids "bug" you to help them with insect collections?

We came back from a visit to Brenda's family in SE Kentucky once and I went to a dollar store to get some of those big plastic toy bugs that they sell. I attached them to the radiator of the car to show the Northerners just how big bugs can be down South.

    Good Morning Everybody,

    Thanks for the breakfast Cuz.

Just had my oldest Grandson come home from school. Some kid pulled the chair out from under him as he was sitting down. The kid is suspended, and Jacob is home nursing a sore back. Have him on Motrin and a heating pad right now.

We're doing the same thing that Cindi is minus making the costumes, that is. Have to get the yard picked up for tomorrow night. For the past several years I've sat in a chair by the post light in our front yard. I'm wearing my camoflage coat, gloves, and hat + wearing a mask that looks like a basketball. I just sit there and once in a while move my arm up and down. I don't make a sound. I've had people walk up to me and say "gee, this looks real!" Then I reply "yes, don't I?" Sure makes people jump.

Took me awhile to get all my cooking supplies for tomorrow nights treats, but finally found them.

Time to go see if I can find where my front yard used to be. Seems like instead of grass we have toys, and bikes, etc. Guess it's not hard for anybody driving down the street to see where all the kids gather to play.

Morning all! Well, Rob - I also have a child home today. I was kind of nauseous all day yesterday but feel better today - and now it seems Nicole (15) has it. So I just picked her up from school. Hopefully she'll have it as long as I did and that's it.

I also just made an appointment for Joanna (4) to eat shrimp at the doctor's office next Wednesday. THAT should be fun! Sitting in the doctor's office for 4 hours while she eats a 1/2 lb. of shrimp. I'll bring her schooling with her so she can do a few lessons - and she'll do fine. :D

Not much else going on today. We're home which is nice. Tomorrow will be busy with homeschooling, hitting the trick or treating in town right after school then heading up to church for all activities there. We have a kid's program each Wednesday that will still go on but then there's a party afterwards. It's ALSO Robby's birthday so we'll get a cake or something for him to have at church.

I'll see ya'll later! I left some blueberry muffins that I made this morning. Enjoy!

    Hellloooo, y'all, too,

got Riko into the vet's this morning for neutering. Fed horses, Barry's off to dentist. Chris is up. But I am claiming a cup of tea and a piece of toast before I go get him!

Wild thunderstorm last night -- massive lightning. Right overhead. Here then gone in about 30 minutes. Wow...

But everything's nicely watered this morning, so that's great.

Gina still doesn't have the results of her biopsy.

Tea's ready and toast's up. Excuse me and have a lovely day.

Let us know about that puppy, MK! Missed the first one but if you have puppy fever, what is there to do?

    Fools that we are....

    God bless you all.

Vet just called. I had asked her to x-ray Riko's hips while he was under for neutering. I was seeing something funny when he walked and ran. Little Riko, one year old, already has hip dysplasia on one side. I KNEW he was walking a little funny, but I just assumed it was muscle strain from playing too hard with Dusty. Criminy! ONE YEAR OLD!

    "What should we do?"

"Let him play all he wants. It will build up the muscles, and put him on the same glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM you give King."

One year old.... as Barry just said, "I guess he really is another rescue animal, huh?"

God bless my husband! He's just right there with all of us, no matter what happens. He's my angel husband. I know I couldn't take care of all these beasties and Chris and the house and the yard without him! And he gives me the intellectual exercise of understanding and explaining his work. I'm so grateful...

    Poor Riko.
