We all know what happens when we assume.

The age demographic of mixed couples in your area is likely a product of the time it took for the local culture to get over their prejudice.

    It Would Be Great, but......

Your hope that others will follow is what I too hope, still I won't hold my breath from what I still see going on in the world around me.

An interesting excerpt from Wkipedia. African American men are 2.5 times more likely to be married to white women than African American women to white men.

    Black and White

Although mixed-race partnering has increased, the United States still shows disparities between African American male and African American female endogamy statistics. The 1990 census reports that 17.6% of African American marriages occur with White Americans. Yet, African American men are 2.5 times more likely to be married to white women than African American women to white men. In the 2000 census, 239,477 African American male to white female and 95,831 white male to African American female marriages were recorded, again showing the 2.5-1 ratio. In 2007, black-white marriage remains a rare event: 4.6% of married Blacks marry whites, and 0.4% of married whites marry blacks

Absolutely correct, here! The real issue of bigotry, and specifically the bigotry of skin pigmentation, is hiding behind what is allegedly an interracial question. That is not usually the question, at all. And in my neck of the woods, there seems to be a difference between what is the 'races' in question, at that. Not to mention, in about as many instances as not, the issue is not that of 'race', at all, but that of ethnicity or culture, which is a misnomer when used for 'race', by definition.
Once again, correct! In fact, I will offer a link to this thread running in the Polls forum on the Baptist Board to show an example of this very thing.

    http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=41762&page=18

Aside from the fact that there is no such thing as an "Hispanic" (or 'Latino') race (this is a cultural distinctive, only), this poll, at the current tally, shows this here on the BB. There are four of five distinct 'races' given, here, often identified or known by the general skin color of black, red, white and yellow, alphabetically. (The fifth 'race' is that of 'brown', FTR.) Each of the five is distinct from the other four. And one pairing is no more, or no less bi-racial than another.

Yet there are somehow exactly the same number who "have a problem" with a white/black marriage, as the rest of the categories of "interracial marriages" all put together.

And that, my friends, is nothing more or less than racial discrimination, bigotry, and prejudice! If it were not, and were indeed a Biblical conviction, the numbers would all be exactly the same.
    'Selective looking', ya' think?

Did not read whole thread but I believe the command for the jews not to marry gentiles in the old testament has everything to do with the New Testament verse to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. The Jews were supposed to be the light on hill for the other nations to see and by marrying in with pagans would destroy their witness. I do not see it as a ban on interracial marraiges today-we are not to marry unbelievers but as for other races there is no ban. If there is a ban then I would have to find someone who has the exact same background as me (by the way the Nazis tried to do this in Germany) to marry and that would be extremely hard.

    Hope I made sense

Inter-racial marriage is not good idea because of the conflict between the culture, behavior, communication, etc. Think with this illustration: A boy is "mixed" race because his dad is black and his mother is white. This boy got along with other boys at the school -- no plm with this inter-race. He tried to date with a girl, but a girl rejected him. So he found another girl for a date and she rejected him again. This happened to him REPEATEDLY and REPEATEDLY.

Know what did he do? He went to the Dean's office. He was crying.

A staff asked him, "what's wrong?"
This boy replied, "WHO AM I?"

If you think inter-racial marriage is no problem, what about inter-racial children in the future? Look at David's children in the OT. Did you not read the AWFUL story about David's children in the OT?

    Please.

First of all, I have several kids of mixed ethnicity in my youth group. No problems here. Many of them bring their "dates" to church. Not one has run into my office crying, "Who am I?" Guess if I were a dean, they might. Sounds like your hypothetical kid either:
    • Needs help with social skills.
    • Attends KKK university.
    • Should seriously find a less hokey story to hang out it.
Don't try to make the Bible say something it doesn't. As was said earlier...it neither mandates nor condemns it. Not your thing? Fine. But when you mandate it, and Scripture doesn't, you've crossed the line into justifying your own pre-judgements.

But David's children (as far as I know) were not the result of interracial marriages. Some of David's wives were a different nationality to him, but none was of a different race. Also there are other "international" marriages in the Old Testament. Ruth and Boaz for instance - we don't read any "AWFUL story" about their children.

    I agree with Flippo

    Flippo said....

I totally agree. The only reason Ruth was allowed to marry Boaz is that she believed on the God of Israel. Ru 1:16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

There are other gentile women in Jesus' mother's lineage...Ruth was a Moabite, Rehab was from Jericho and I have no idea if Tamar (Mom to Judah's twins) was Jewish or Gentile.....

My ethnic background is English/Irish, my husband's is Polish/German. The ONLY stipulation we would have for our three children's mates is that they be believers. We could care less whether these spouses were grey/brown/blue/yellow/butterscotch, etc!

Oh, David, but we do have an awful story about one of their descendents...

On of their descendents was born to a virgin, lived a sinless life, but ended up crucified....

What an awful way to die...

But thank God He did, and 3 days later rose from the grave!!

See my post was deleted. That's fine, wouldn't want to offend any of my "white" and ever so caring brothers and sisters in Christ. After all they are "genuinely" concerned about the well being of children like mine. Forgive me. How could I have done such a thing as chosing a wonderful god-fearing man as my husband and started a family? How dare I actually think to bring children into this world. I am oh so selfish and repentent for my sins. Please, please, please forgive me o baptistboard brethren for offending your delicate sensibilities and proving your RACIST streorotypes to be ridiculous and untrue. What in the world was I thinking?!? :tear:

Know what, just delete my account. This place is no more edifying to me than myspace.

FP, I saw your post before it was deleted and didn't see a thing in it. I just get weary of these conversations - we speak the same language here you and I - Ron's and my differences just aren't as blatent and your family's are.

Look back over the posts and you'll see lot's of support for marriage between believers - forget the skin color.

ANY kid can wake up and say "WHO AM I" Kids are mixed up - Adults can do the same. Adults get mixed up. We are who we are in Christ Jesus! Our DNA has nothing to do with it.

My worth is found in Jesus! That's who I am - regardless of my red and white DNA!

I had a friend such as AskJo was speaking of. His dad was Black, His mom was white. My friend was alway coming hom from school crying because white kids did not accept him, nor did the black kids.

Interracial marriages create, if you will, a breed set apart... like the Samatrians were set apart from other races.

From the beginning, I believe the command to go forth and multiply' was meaning after one's own kind. Trees, grass, animals, etc. were of their own kind and did not start creating hybrid breeds until man began interfering in that which God had created.

Same in marriages. People, not happy with how God made them turn to other races, other ideas, other devices.

Why is the tone here that the problem is the mixed race, and is not with those who are reacting to the mixed race?

This is turning disgusting. Some of you guys need to look back at your posts. Are all of you from hick town with all whites, or something? Good grief.

Time to start banning people. I can't believe you are referring to mixed races as different "breeds", sorry that not everyone can stay within one's own "kind" SFIC. You are warped.

Linda, while she is of Jewish descent, is caucasion like myself. Anyone seeing her picture can clearly see that.

My statement was not racist in the least. Nor was it hateful.

How other people react to us is never the standard for what is right or wrong. Right and wrong stands on its own merits independent of public perception but wholey dependent on the standard of God. Because people react irresponsibly to biracial marriages is not the standard to live by.

I completely understand Film Producers reaction and it is quite a shame that "Christians" would take such an opposing view to this subject.

I read your post too FP. There was nothing wrong with it....especially in comparison to the garbage that has been put out there since then.
