This is an interesting article for those that think they can be sinless:

It is by Dr Michael Horton of Wesminster Seminary in California.

    Read it and then comment:

Interestingly, Osteen's message is actually legalism. When he says things like, just do your best, God knows your heart, it proves he doesn't understand that we are ALL dead in trespasses and sin. IOW, for God to know and judge us by our heart leaves us with no hope at all.

That was good nunatak "for God to know and judge us by our heart leaves us with no hope at all". I'm going to put that in my signature if you don't mind. :)

Wow. We should all put that in our signatures. That is a very profound statement.

If we strip away the biblical reality that sin is a condition into which every man is born and therefore completely dead spiritually, then we have stepped onto the path of a Christ-less Gospel.

Not quite. The gospel isn't dependent upon how well you or the person presenting it understands or expounds in relation to the phrase "completely dead spiritually". That is taking quite a step into or toward a legalistic view IMO.

Since sin is to fall short of the glory (perfection) of God, that puts this condition upon us all.
If we wake with a prayer on our lips, stay in obedience all day, and go to sleep with a prayer on our lips........ then that righteousness is as filthy rags, compared to His holiness.

I would paraphrase this to say that our good intentions are also as filty rags.

The reality of the sinful condition is provided by the Biblical truth that no man can serve two masters. We need to continually examine who or what is the Lord of our lives, Christ or the world.

    Salvation is belief not actions.
If that is the case, then how can you belief without a level of understanding of what you are believing? That is not to say you need to be a Biblical scholar to be saved but some basic level of understanding is needed.

Otherwise you are in danger of viewing salvation as being saved from the list of sins rather than the condition of it.

    Therefore I say again:
I'll put it another way - The gospel that saves isn't dependent upon how well you understand the phrase "completely dead spiritually" but that you understand you are dead or seperated and in need of a saviour in your helpless state.

To presume more understanding is necessary is to take the gospel into legalism and toward a Hyper-C veiw (please note I didn't say it was but going toward) in which the HS's state that saving faith is equivalent to belief in the doctrines of the 5 core Reformed standards (tulip) and or more specifically even the doctrine of predestination. Our salvation is not dependent upon how much we know in order to fully believe but that we grasp enough to understand (know) and believe.
