Ours just got bumped up to 3.70 for regular in South Dakota.

I have a vehicle that uses E-85 and that is about a $1 cheaper at $2.69

It is 3.88 here. Maybe it is time we learned to live on the gas our country produces. It would force looking for sources elsewhere and make us more responsible on energy use. We were warned in the 70s. Nothing would be more gratifying than seeing OPEC go bankrupt.

Wishful thinking. They will go bankrupt when they run out of oil. The demand for oil is growing all over the world, especially in China and India. We are not as big a boy as we used to be in this and other areas. It is painful, but we are going to have to learn to live with this new world we are going into.

We as Americans have no control over the demand in other countries. However, we can to learn to use what we produce, whatever the type of energy. We do not have to help OPEC out. It is time we set our standards a little higher and stopped dealing with thugs.

This thread is starting to sound like an auction for gas...

Barker, "Gallon of gas going for $3.65, anybody pay $3.65, I have a $3.65, okay we have $3.78 over there, $3.78 for gas, anybody beat $3.78?"

    Bidder, "I'll pay $3.85!"

Barker again, "I have $3.85, $3.85, anybody want this gas? I got $3.85. Going for $3.85!"

    Another bidder, "$3.90!"

    ...........

$3.97 in Illinois today. My daughter paid $4.09 in Indiana.

    Anyone going to try this?

Why are we seemingly so agonized by the signs of the times? Where our treasure is, there will our hearts be also. "We ain't seen nothing yet." 666 is not far behind. God is still on His throne. He will provide for His people.

    Even so, come Lord Jesus.

    Selah,

    http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/auto/20050804a1.asp

Consumer Reports' auto-test department reports that the air conditioner reduces your car's fuel efficiency by up to 10 percent. So to achieve maximum fuel efficiency, motorists should avoid using the air conditioner at speeds below 40 mph and travel with their windows down, explains Gabe Shenhar, senior auto test engineer at Consumer Report's auto-test department.

"But as your speed increases to 45 mph, or highway speeds," says Jason Toews, co-founder of GasBuddy.com, "wind drag becomes an issue. Driving with the windows down increases the drag on your vehicle, resulting in decreased fuel economy by up to 10 percent. Drive at speeds over 55 mph with windows down and you'll decrease fuel economy by up to 20 percent or greater."

Thanks for providing that. I have been wondering if it would help to turn off the air conditioning.

I'm not one to champion big government, but if something doesn't happen pretty soon to stop the rising gas prices, we're going to have an even bigger crisis than what we're facing now. In our area we've already seen a rise in crime and severe increases in our grocery costs and utility bills. It's insane. The average person can't even maintain a frugal lifestyle!

According to the article, around town driving is better with the windows down, AC off. But at highway speeds(55+) it is cheaper to leave windows up and AC on.

Around the town driving is all I plan to do this summer, that is for sure! We'll only be going to the library or post office or grocery, that's it.
