I sincerely hope no one is making threats here because that is automatic banning from the BB...

This thread has turned very hateful and that is really nice to read between brothers and sisters in Christ. Especially for our guests!

Let's tone it down a bit please.

News flash? That general guideline applies all over the US. That was Mississippi law but verified on the US Dept of Health and Human services website. Child abuse laws only vary slightly per state but to be safe, I would assume it's best to abide by them in whatever Country you live.

I am unsure what you mean by "reporting" you, you keep saying that. I know you both like controversy but I am sorry to let you down. I will not bother the Admins/Mods with these constant childish arguments which only seem to delude you both into thinking you are standing for Christ by advocating illegal activity. Reporting you only makes your behavior worse.

This is a somewhat general guideline, not aimed at anyone specifically though I used your family situation you posted here as an example. Probably because I am ADD, and if your posts are left unaddressed, they could have fatal consequences for children.

You both need to be more responsible.

This is what I said in the other thread referring to SFIC's sister...
And I will apply this also to Linda.

But I will say this, I am legally bound as a Minister, if there was someone I know (and know their situation) that was abusing thier child by beating them with a piece of wood because they have a mental condition like ADHD, while denying them the medical treatment to help them... I would report them in a heartbeat...

That is cruelty to the extreme...

That would be like beating a person because they are paralyzed and can't walk.

Denying medication to children when a dr prescribes it is child abuse.
I am going to check with our representatives here in WV to see if there is a law on the books here in WV, and if not, I am going to fight for it.

But I suppose it is the law in every state....

Don't worry Linda, Your kids are grown, and I don't know your situation, so I would never report someone in that case....

It also sounds like you did pretty good by them anyway.

U.S. Department of Justice
Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)
Drug and Chemical Evaluation Section
Methylphenidate (Ritalin)

1. Ritalin is a Schedule II stimulate, structurally and pharmacologically similar to amphetamines and cocaine and has the same dependency profile of cocaine and other stimulants.

2. Ritalin produces amphetamine and cocaine-like reinforcing effects including increased rate of euphoria and drug liking. Treatment with Ritalin in childhood predisposes takers to cocaine’s reinforcing effects.

3. In humans, chronic administration of Ritalin produced tolerance and showed cross-tolerance with cocaine and amphetamines.

4. Ritalin is chosen over cocaine in self-administered preference studies in non-human primates.

5. Ritalin produces behavioral, physiological and reinforcing effects similar to amphetamines.

6. Ritalin substitutes for cocaine and amphetamines in scientific studies.

7. Children medicated with Ritalin who tried cocaine reported higher levels of drug dependence than those who had not used Ritalin.

8. Ritalin abuse is neither benign or rare in occurrence and is accurately described as producing severe dependence.

9. Sweden removed Ritalin from its market in 1968 because of widespread abuse.

10. More high school seniors were abusing Ritalin than those taking it medically prescribed.

11. Side-effects or Ritalin: increased blood pressure, heart rate, respirations and temperature; appetite suppression, weight loss, growth retardation; facial tics, muscle twitching, central nervous system stimulation, euphoria, nervousness, irritability and agitation, psychotic episodes, violent behavior, paranoid delusions, hallucinations, bizarre behaviors, heart arrhythmias, palpitations and high blood pressure; tolerance and psychological dependence and death.

12. Ritalin will affect normal children and adults the same as those with attention and behavior problems. Effectiveness of Ritalin is not diagnostic.

13. CHADD, non-profit organization, which promotes the use of Ritalin, also receives a great deal of money from the drug manufacturer of Ritalin. CHADD does not inform its members of the abuse problems of Ritalin. CHADD portrays the drug as a benign, mild stimulant that is not associated with abuse of serious side-effects. Statements by CHADD are inconsistent with scientific literature.

14. The International Narcotics Control Board expressed concern that CHADD is actively lobbying for the use of Ritalin in children.

15. Ritalin is one of the top ten drugs involved in drug thefts and is being abused by health professionals as well as street addicts.

http://drbate.com/Ref/DEA.html

Would you allow your children to use cocaine? This is a report from the DEA.

Ever hear of Separation of Church and State? The Word of God says we are to obey God rather than man. It also tells us not to withhold the rod of correction from the child. I don't fear the state of Mississippi, nor any other state that would try to step in between the correcting of a child by its parents.

As I said, this country is no longer the blessed country it was once before; and that is because people no longer fear God, but rather cower under the rule of a government that threatens one with jail time for obey God's Word.

Well, one day, those who dismiss God's ordinances concerning the family because they are4 more afraid of man than they are of God will find their fears were aimed in the wrong direction.

Children are better controlled with love and discipline rather than drugs and indifference.

Aww... here is the point of our disagreement...

YOu look at giving medication to ADHD kids as "controlling them"

I see it as a medical condition that needs attention by giving medicine.

If someone was giving it to them to simply control them, I would agree with you! You would be right, love and discipline are the only way to control a child and be Christ like.

But I am not talking about control.

The medicine is not about control, it is about allowing them to pay attention and focus on one thing.

Besides, there are other drugs besides ritalin that are available, so if a parent has a problem with ritalin, they can talk to their Dr, and they can work out something.

I have used Caffeine before when my children has forgotten their medicine, or we have been out, without it...

It works on ADD kids as well. It's amazing what a cup of coffee will do for an ADHD kid...
Caffeine and other stimulents work backwards for ADHD/ADD kids.

I can drink a cup of coffee right before bed, and have a great night of sleep... the cafeine works backwards in me...

For me, Zoloft works... It slows my mind down enough to focus..
And I only take it when I need it.(with my drs blessing, I might add)

There are many treatments for ADHD....
Parents should find the one that works best for their child. (but beating them with a paddle is not a treatment... it is barbaric)

But again, it is not about controling the child, but allowing the child to controll his or her rambling mind.

I've been here for years, and I've never seen you admit that you were wrong.

Of course...you guys know more about the brain than any MD. You are qualified to speak on every single instance of any issue related to the brain and its function.

You never answered my post on another thread. My aunt has stage 4, metasticized bone cancer. She's in excruciating pain, 24/7. Is it wrong for her to take pain medication? You know, it "alters" the mental state.

SFIC, you're hypocritical. You post on a thread and discuss taking meds to get better...then you question the faith of anyone who....guess what? Takes meds to get better.

I gave a detailed synopsis of my ADHD opinion (which, quite honestly, is fairly middle of the road. As I said...it is overdiagnosed, and meds shouldn't be the first course of action...but there are some for whom it is necessary). However, you have yet to show the maturity to discuss it...you'd rather cast aspersions on people's faith who commit the mortal sin of not deferring to your great wisdom.

God forbid you should ever be in the shoes of these godly people you denigrate. I promise to not make fun of you when you come to your senses.

Now...back to my aunt (who, BTW, has a few months to live). Exactly how is she sinning by taking pain medication?

Then you're being a hypocrite.

Condemn folks...until you're hurting. Then you can take "mind-altering medication."

BTW...if your standard for allowing it is "it wears off," then have a drink. It wears off, too.

It stinks when your halo gets dented, doesn't it?

You weren't the one with the migraine headache and you weren't the one who came very close to having a stroke in the ER....so quit with the hypocrite garbage you seem to love throwing around. The "drugs" we are speaking of are the ones which have been proved to be "mind-altering" and are used to "control" the behavior of children...NOT pain killers.

I've looked all over for that "so called" halo...can't find it anywhere.

Get over it rbell.:tonofbricks:

Hey, I posted proof that morphine is a mind altering drug.

Admit it Linda.

You all have dug so deep, you should be able to have Chinese for lunch, and not have to order takeout!

This is getting ridiculous.

Ritalin is wrong...because other people use it..
But Morphine is OK because you have a migraine...????????

No one is ever going to take you seriously...

I don't ever want to hear you or SFIC condemn people using Alcohol or other drugs, when you use Morphine for Migraines!!!

I knew your self righteous attitude had to be hiding a deep dark secret.

Children are "better controlled"? My goal is not to "control them" in the first place. We aren't talking about animals here. ADD meds aren't perscribed primarily "to control behavior" to my knowledge. Behavior can be modified thru other positive means such as effective parenting and exercise.
We are bound to obey the laws of the land as long as they don't conflict with the word of God. He commands us to disobey the law of the land and obey God's law if they conflict.
Romans 13:1-7 states: "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.

That verse does not speak of a literal rod, it encompasses the whole disciplinary process. We are to discipline our children. The verse is vague for a reason. On rare occasions, I can see spanking a child as being necessary.

This has nothing to do with fear of the government. You have no children so of course there is no reason to fear this issue.

This has to do with honoring children's god given rights. It has to do with obeying the law. It has to do with loving your children enough to discipline them when it is right to do so, not when we feel like grabbing a paddle to whack them out of the blue to obey some bible verse taken out of context. That is abuse, period. You were physically abused, you already said so. Now you are trying to pass off your generational curse to us innocent folks on the BB.

Medication is to control thoughts, tone down anxiety, be able to concentrate somewhat to write letters, do taxes, etc..Sometimes ADD meds act as an antidepressant. People must work to make a living. Not all kids/adults take ADD meds to control behavior. Last time I took it was to get my tax stuff together for the tax lady. Time before it was dealing with employees and workmans comp. Time before that, it was to control behavior and it was needed.

wondering about scripture that says this, if there is none, then it's only opinion.
Alcohol is not medication and is not intended to be medication. Medications and alcohol have two different intentions.
Prehaps you should not take any medications that alter anything in your body, high blood pressure, etc. Of course you wouldn't want to be hyprcritical about it.

It is illegal to pratice medicine without a license, but we see many playing this illegal game here.
I agree, Anyone who with holds medication from a child thats been prescribed by a doctor, and approved by parents should be arrested for abuse. Not to mentionit is illegal to make medical decisions for a child nto your own.
This is also called parental interferrance, as if it is alright to contradict a paerents medical decisions.

Unless your doctors you aren't qualified to ahnd out medical advice.
God did not say, do not use medications. If He did then you must stop using them before you tell others too. Or admit being hypocritical.

Then that includes the need for medications, which means you've already stoped taking medications, right? I guess you've also thrown away your glasses.
If you answered no to either question,
then
your title is
hypocrite.
You turn to medications rather then God's word.

Apparently you overlooked the fact that Linda did not ask for the Morphine, nor did the doctor ask her if she wanted Morphine.

Linda does not use Morphine, tim. It was given to her without her knowing it was Morphine.

Self righteous, no. We are clothed in Christ's righteousness.
