How about because God created the people and the foreign cultures from which the style of music emerged. Kind of like he created the people and cultures from which EVERY style of music emerged.

How do we know that God's okay with organs or pianos? Have you ever seen Jerry Lee Lewis play the piano. Pure evil I tell ya...

The thing about Rap music that offends many people is it's aggressive, in-your-face attitude. And it glorifies the thug life. Now, you say that Christian rap is ok because it's, well, Christian. And that may be. It may be that the Lord thinks it's just great.

But let's try an illustration: Suppose me and my buddies, my singing group, went into a black church dressed like Amos n' Andy, with blackface makeup, talking and shuffling around like Steppinfetchit. You know that would offend the people in that church. So I'd say, "But hey it's Christian! It's about God and glorifies Jesus!" You know what they'd tell me? They'd tell me to get that junk out of their church, and I wouldn't blame them.

It's sort of the same situation with 'Christian rap'. The rappers say it's good stuff, and some younger people like it. But to most people it's just plain offensive.

i see what you're saying. i agree with it... i just don't like it when people stereotype anything. "i don't like rap because it always talks about money, sex, an' all that..."

i'm just trying to get the word out there that there is rap/hip-hop lyrics that glorify Jesus. i don't like non-christian lyrics at all. although i've said i listen to say, damien rice, dave matthews band, jack johnson, and a couple others... i like the guitar in their songs... i play acoustic guitar. it seems that almost every christian song with acoustic guitar in it almost sounds the same. except for dcb, shawn mcd, and a few others... i love guitar. need variety.

i'm trying to represent Jesus in different ways. ways that maybe could reach certain people that other ways could not.

i have nothing else to say right now.

I cant stomach the sound of rap or hip hop. I'm not sure what I would equate the sound to. Maybe sheet metal being shredded or maybe 10,000 fingernails screeching across 10,000 blackboards.

I didnt think anything could get more hidious sounding than that punk rock garbage but then I heard rap.

If there are christian groups making that noise to glorify Christ than I'm all for it but I would not be able to be there while they are doing it. I'd make it through about 2 minutes of it and I would have to leave the church and go outside with the cigarette smokers. Unless it could still be heard and then I would have to go across the street to the gas station or something.

Commenting on rap noise in general, not necesarrily christian rap, I would say that is has to be a case of "music" finally hitting absolute "rock bottom" regarding any credibility from a musical perspective.

I cant imagine any noise being on a lower level save for nuclear bombs going off.

hahaha...That's about a minute longer than I would make it.

Well, I don't want to discourage young people who want to serve the Lord, but don't want the fuddy-duddy lifestyle of us old-timers. They are looking for a way, and I guess I shouldn't be too critical of them. But Rap church sure wouldn't be a Christian experience that I could partake of.

    nate,

Those are fine sentiments, no doubt about it. I dont argue a bit with that. They need to learn how to speak properly and articulate things more coherently, but that should come in time.

The problem I have is not the words being...um...spoken(sort of), but rather how its being presented. To me the sheer unadulterated ugliness of the noise being made makes in completly unlistenable.

By the way, I have heard some good things about Cross Movement. I've heard that they simply stand there and present what they offer, without all of the goonish and comical posturing and gyrations. If they just stand there and say what they say thats very refreshing...and encouraging.

And does Cross Movement present their message with normal language, or is every other word "what!", "dog!", "huh!", "Yo!" and all of that stuff?

I agree with Rocko9 on the previous page. rap is a bunch of people yelling in your face. it sounds like a bunch of tounge twisters. i don't listen to that junk; i hear it on the tv and it makes me cringe. to me that just doesn't glorify God. if the people who write these songs are singing to get attention then that isn't glorifying God. don't tell me that they aren't singing to get attetnion.... your not them so don't answer for them. just because it has christian lyrics doesn't make it a christian song! again.... would Jesus listen to that type of music? would you be ashamed if Jesus were to go through your music collections? are you afraid to give the music you listen to up, because it makes you feel good or you like it, even though you know it is wrong?

tell me how you think that christian rap/hip-hop glorifies God. tell me some scripture of where you think that God would listen to that music. Thanks Aaron. God is ok with any instrument... as long as it is glorifing God. not upbeat, tapping your shoes and get your head bobbing music.

This is just an observation. Just something I've noticed on both christian and non-christian music boards.

Generally, folks who post who enjoy rap noise many times dont spell well and either know nothing regarding punctation or dont care about it. Their posts are just a mess.

    I wonder why that is?

Show me where it doesn't. Include Book, Chapter, and verse.

Sure but first you show me where God would listen to Amazing Grace!

    not upbeat

    Verse?

    tapping your shoes

I see this at IFB churches with hymns. Of course that isn't saying much.

    get your head bobbing music

Your starting to sound like a mc (rapper)! Starting to repeat yourself. Again Scripture? David danced before the Lord in the OT. Colossians 1:20 "and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross."

    Nate,

Yeah I know. I play in a gospel bluegrass band and there are some people that honestly can only make it about halfway through a bluegrass song before they run screaming from the room. [IMG] (I think its the banjo that finally does them in) [IMG]

These folks who are doing this "rapping" for Jesus...I hope God will bless them and use them in a mighty way. I just cant be in the room while they are doing it. :D

    God bless,

    Mike [IMG]

D28guy - Hello Mike. I am in the Middletown area, but work nights in Frankfort. Berea is a nice place. I haven't spent much time there but always a good town to drive through, at least in good weather [IMG] ) Glad to hear from you.

D28 I was born in Pickens SC the "foothills" of the blue ridge mountains and I enjoy bluegrass. My favorite "picker, vocalist" of all time is Ralph Stanly. I love him. There are very few forms of music I don't like. 1.Pop(B.Spears, backstreet boys)2. Jazz~it's okay just don't like it much.Just about everything else I enjoy. I don't believe pop, or jazz are bad forms of music I think they can be used to bring people to Christ just not my favorite.

Show me where it doesn't. Include Book, Chapter, and verse. </font>[/QUOTE]We don't have to. The Scriptures state that all things in worship are to be decent (or seemly) and in order. If you're saying that rap is a hallowed form of worship, you have the burden of showing how it is compatible with God's standard of decency.

David danced before the Lord in the OT.

He also sacrificed animals. Show where Christ or the Apostles danced in their worship.

The Scriptures say that men are at enmity with God, and the things that men esteem highly are an abomination to Him. The fact that God created them doesn't make them good. Man was created good in the beginning, but he was not created incorruptible, and everything he has done since the Fall is corrupted.

So, it doesn't seem your reasoning holds out. Try again.

How do we know that God's okay with organs or pianos?

I thought we were talking about styles, not instruments.
