I appreciate the spirit and candour President Bush expressed in this article.

I agree. I only wish more Americans showed an attitude that is shown by Bush in this article.

It would certainly help with a peaceful transfer of power. We were so embarrassed eight years ago when the liberals demonstrated with signs like 'Bush is not my president.' I hope the right are above that kind of tactic.

Kudos to Mr Bush and the best of wishes in Texas.

Perhaps the point is that the title did not totally accurately reflect Pres Bush's words.

Ok then... the author of your cited article told a falsehood in his title.

You unthinkingly perpetuated it... but it's still a falsehood.

Funny how you selectively criticize. If I do not copy and paste a headline someone complains. If I do then I am accused of lieing. Which do you want.

    Bush said:

Bush was not sayng that it was good for the country in every way possible. He was saying that Obama's win does give some people hope they would not have had if McCain had been elected. If McCain had been elected than other people would have been given hope.

I thought a very good gesture on Bush's part to acknowledge the importance historically of Obama's win, and how it does give hope to some people.

I do not see it as a blanket endorsement of Obama, but a nice guesture never-the-less.

Now for you Obama haters I do not expect you to accept this explanation
... or any other that is not negative toward Obama.

It cannot be denied that Obama's win has given hope to many people around the world. But that is another topic and I will start a thread on it.

We are playing at semantics here. President Bush clearly said that the election of Sen Obama was a good thing for America.

I agree with his sentiment, and I appreciate his spirit. I am not a Bush fan, or an Obama fan, but this shows that he is a true patriot who loves his country more than his party or his agenda.

How do I selectively criticize? Or are you under the mistaken impression that the various screen names are all the same person?

I find it hard to believe that anyone has ever complained that a thread was not titled the same as some article being cited.

What I want - and I am sure what many others want - is TRUTHFULLNESS in what a thread title says - not sensationalism or misrepresentation.

What President Bush actually said was "It is good for our country that people have hope in the system and feel vested in the future ..."

You are injecting your own agenda into his words. Fortunately my reading comprehension is good and I am not easily mislead or manipulated by such tactics.

If so, you are the only Obama supporter I see around here. What happend to the others? Where did they go? Do they only post during elections?

He shows far more class than his predecessor.

Here's hoping that continues. Shouldn't be hard.

Well, I guess pretty much all the Obama supporters are hiding out or something.

    I don't get it.

What is it about you and the "Obama supporters?" Everyone here doesn't fall neatly into these two camps. I did not vote for Obama, but I am not totally against everything he does.

I apologise for getting crabtownboy all defensive with this statement.

It should have read, "The article misquoted Bush and the title was copied."

But I do believe (and agree with Targus) that it was a misquotation and a deliberate attempt to sensationalize things untruthfully. When I read the title, I got the idea that Bush was supporting what Obama stands for and that his win was going to bring good for the country. That is clearly not what he said.

(But it did get me reading this thread, so I guess it worked. sigh.)

So it's kinda irritating when writers do that, you know?

I did not actively support Obama before the election. After the last 12 years of presidents, I said, in another thread, that I had lowered my expectations for the next president. If he did not screw things up too badly, then I would consider him a raging success. Also, after the election, the spewing of bile from the losers did not require a response. So, I've been keeping my head down.

Now, while I'm glad Obama won, my opinion still holds. He has a huge job before him. That can't be overstated. He has the potential to be another President Carter where he could find himself in an situation that he could not manage nor win. I hope not, but we will not really know for sure until after his term is done. At that point, if he has not screwed things up too badly, then he will be a success.
