Visiting

Routine visitation is complicated in many areas due to shift work and also both members of couples working. When does one call? In my area, I call on all people who are ill or having difficulties. They have always been receptive to me. I took something from the Fuller Brush company who always had a free gift when they went door to door...so, I always take a few apples, pears and other such things and that is the first thing my hand offers them when I come to their door. They already know I will have something religious as well and willspare me a few moments. I will say this, you must be inventive these days.

Are you running into Church of Christ people re the losing your salvation issue? Aren't there a lot of Church of Christ churches in your area? There's a Church of Christ person in the Other Christian Denominations forum who right now is arguing you can lose your salvation.

I guess the others you refer to above are charismatics/pentecostals.

We do have the latter here, but not that many. This area is very secular.

Our church has been blessed this yr because of this outreach. I highly recommend it. our whole state convention has worked through the series this yr, and it is great hearing stories how people who were hesitant to the gospel are being won to the Lord by Christians just showing a servant's heart. It softens people's hearts so they can HEAR the Gospel.

Techniques used in the 20th century will not work as well in the 21st century...

I am here to testify that OUtflow works...

First you let God flow into you... (you can't share faith you don't have yourself)
Then you flow out to family
Friends
neighbors... in that order...

All while finding ways to be a servant to them.

Hi, Navymans...

God bless your new ministry in Him. We in New England and particularly NH have so many Assemblies of God churches, and Free Will Baptists... all who believe they must be
'good' to stay saved. And then we have all those who won't go to church at all.

Yet I'm blessed and thankful to be in a strong Bible preaching church where the members are faithful and strong in the Lord. I think we (the church at large) should emphasize God's sovereignty more heavily - maybe this would help put all these works salvation ideas to bed.

 

Honestly, from one navy man to another, if you arrived at my house unannounced around 6 pm you would be guaranteed a certain level of hostility. Maybe you should try a different strategy

 

Yes! 6M lines up with those unwanted telephone solicitations...........not to mention suppertime.

Could you explain about three gifts?

 

I am not going to get into a debate on salvation and hijack this thread, however you are mistaken about Free Will Baptists. While they do believe you can give back the gift of salvation, because just as accepting the Lord is of our own Free Will and not forced upon us, we are free to keep the gift or to return it.

There maybe some Free Will Baptist who think you can be saved, then sin and lose your salvation, then be saved, then sin and lose your salvation, etc. That is not how the majority of Free Will Baptists believed. I am not sure how clearly their doctrine spells out what happens after you return the gift, but I know many believe that once you do that God will not give you another opportunity.

I'm not saying that I think it is possible - but if it was, why would anyone make a conscious decision to return the free gift of salvation? I can see making the decision to willfully sin, to walk away from friendship with God by way of sin, but not to give back salvation. Unless you never believed it was yours in the first place.

 

As I said I am not going to debate eternal salvation here. If you want to start a thread on this topic feel free, but lets keep to the OP here. The point of my post was to point out what I believed to be an error in what you thought Free Will Baptists believe.
