I think this is what is happening, but I do not believe these men, that are in charge of the GOP have the resolve, nor the clout to accomplish this enormous task... They need a couple of elder statesmen, perhaps in the Newt Gingrich vein.

If the GOP doesn't convince me that they want to return to their traditional values, embracing conservatism, and showing acceptance of Christianity, I will find another party to support, and I've been a staunch Rep. for over 40 years....

Would this be a good place to point out that any President, from the most conservative to the most liberal, whoever either of those may be or have been, cannot spend one dime, unless Congress OKs it?

He or she can promise whatever they wish, but its 'awful hard' to write a check when you are not even allowed to even so much as touch the checkbook.

    Ed

P.S. Once again, for whomever posted this, as to President George W. Bush supposedly being "the worst President in history" [Or for some others who might like to make a similar claim most notably about President(s) William J. Clinton (or while maybe less so), also George H. W. Bush, Ronald W. Reagan, or Jimmy Carter, or any other recent President(s), for that matter] :

The failure to read and understand history has seldom been more evident than in statements such as what I have referred to, IMO. (We actually had to know a little bit of U.S. History, in order to graduate High School, when I went there! What happened in the meantime??)

There have been 11 U.S. Presidents, thus far in my 60 years upon this earth. Has each and/or every one of these Presidents made some bad decisions, gotten bad advice, and/or exercised bad judgment, at some point or points?

You betcha', and some have done this (or will likely yet do this) much more than others, I would add.

Did any and/or all also make some good decisions?

Again yes, and some obviously have made (or will likely yet make) far fewer of these than others, as well. And I'll even add that President George W. Bush may possibly turn out to be the worst President in my lifetime. Or one may still be able to say the same about President William J. Clinton, even. (Ask me about this in about 20 years, and I should be able to give you a decent evaluation, then. I'm pretty sure history will show that neither of these is, or was, in any danger, whatsoever, of knocking Presidents Harry S Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, or Gerald R. Ford off "the top of the heap" for the "Best President" of my lifetime, anytime soon!)

But it is also still true that not one of these 11, at their overall worst, is even anywhere close to being "UNworthy enough" to even begin to "scuff the shoes" of Presidents Warren G. Harding and/or Ulysses S. Grant and/or Millard Fillmore for the dubious crown of "Worst US President in history"! :(

    Yep,

Ed I pointed the ame thing out about U.S. Grant the first time I saw one of our resident Bush haters refer to him as the "worst President in U.S. history." I got no response....:tonofbricks:

You mean to leave the GOP? That will just mean fewer Republicans and fewer GOP electoral victories. Which would be fine with me. :)

It would be a tragedy for the nation.. We've already ceded control to the liberals for the next 4 years, and the little restraint that is on them will vanish if they know they will have full control for the foreseeable future....

Not sure what your point is seeing the GOP was in this charge when this train wreck happened? Wasn't the Hoover party in control when the great depression happened also? One of those things that makes you go HHhhmm??

One thing Bush and Hoover have in common, a Democrat President was elected after them because neither did their job.

George Bush painted a picture of himself as a Christian conservative to the American people, one of the biggest smoke and mirrors job in history.

One bad thing about being an inexperience liberal, when you mix ineptness with liberalism, the effects are much worse.

When Republicans go back to their conservative beliefs and hold their leaders accountable for those principles, they will start winning elections again.

Bush cut taxes... Reagan cut taxes...

Bush raised the deficit... Reagan raised the deficit...

I thought Bush did what the GOP presidents do, they sit in the wheelhouse with all fours on the wheel yelling, "study as she goes... We can ride this storm out, study as she goes"... as the nation falls apart...

This is why some want Obama to start early. He may not have a good plan but it's sure better than "do nothing"...

Oh yes it did... Unemployment went up and the deficit soared. It was so bad Bush Sr had to raise taxes after he promised not to.

Clinton had a mess when he took office.

Please. I'm not going to let you revise history. Reagan is STILL a wildly popular president, your disbarred felon buddy left the mess. He didn't inherit one.

Getting back to the O/P, I'm glad the GOP will finally do something, after hearing the dems were going to do something about him for the last eight years.

Actually, you can find large numbers of both liberals and conservatives in CA. SF of course is the liberal stronghold. San Diego is just as rapidly conservative. After all, CA did elect Reagan as governor.

Popular has nothing to do with it, the facts are the facts...

The fact are He raised the national debt from $700 billion to $3 trillion and unemployment reached 10.8% percent in December 1982 which is the highest since the great depression... Again, Hoovers party...

He was only popular amongst the GOP and they don't want to admit to the facts of his presidency...
