One of the reasons that those in favor of giving total amnesty to illegal immigrants is that the amount of tax revenue that would be lost would be devestating. But would it?
I know that they pay sales taxes on thihgs that they purchase at Wal-Mart and other retail venues, but what about income taxes? Is any one going to try to tell me that all these construction companies, landscapers, roofers have these illegals on their books? What do they use for a social security number?
I have to say that the situation this country finds itself in is due to unscrupulous employers who seek cheap under-the-table labor.
DONT PROVIDE THE JOBS AND THEY WILL GO HOME!

Here is an excellent excerpt from an piece by Tony Blankley:

"Unfortunately, low-skill immigrants don't pay enough taxes to cover the cost of the [government] benefits they receive ? As the Swiss writer Max Frisch wrote about his own country's experience with immigration, 'We wanted a labor force, but human beings came.' " Mr. Krugman also observed — citing a leading Harvard study — "that U.S. high school dropouts would earn as much as 8 percent more if it weren't for Mexican immigration. That's why it's intellectually dishonest to say, as President Bush does, that immigrants 'do jobs that Americans will not do.' The willingness of Americans to do a job depends on how much that job pays — and the reason some jobs pay too little to attract native-born Americans is competition from poorly paid immigrants."

    That's 10 BILLION DOLLARS in 2002 alone.

Can't find a more recent report, but I don't think the cost went down one cent since then. That's $40 billion.

Next time some hippy comes to me & says, "you know how many hungry people could eat for what we spend on bombs ?".....I'm gonna print that report & make him eat it.

I'm glad that there are a lot of illegal workers who work hard and pay their taxes like anyone who is here legally. If there can be a method to make it easier for such persons to gain legal status, great. However, making it easier for them to become citizens? Sorry, wait in line like everyone else.

Who do you think are the bigger criminals? The illegals or the companies and businesses who hire them and pay them off the books? I really think that we are going after the wrong criminal. We constantly castigate the immigrants who sneak across the border but give employers a pass who are also criminals for hiring them. Should they be allowed to break the law because they cant find Americans who will pick their strawberries, or oranges or mow peoples lawns?
The fact of the matter is they know that they can pay Mexicans peanuts because they wont go to the labor board for fear of being deported. I am still not convinced that they are all that much of a source of tax revenue.
But we all know that they are a terrible burden to our health care ssystem.
