TV Pitchman Billy Mays went to bed filling ill last night and never woke up. He had been on a plane that blew out a tire yesterday, creating a hard landing, and had been on The Tonight Show last Tuesday. He was scheduled to have his 3rd hip replacement on Monday.

No more loud pitches to irritate listeners like me. But, it is sad that he has passed.

==To be honest, his work got on my nerves. He is a major reason I learned to mute commercials. I'm sad for his family and friends, this has got to be tough on them.

Btw, you can read his final tweet about the hard landing here. It is very sobering to think that less than 24 hours after writing that tweet he had passed into eternity.

If I was a preacher I would say there is a sermon in there somewhere.

I too was always annoyed when one of his commercials came on, and reached quickly for the remote. But the simple fact is that a lot of people bought whatever he was selling, or he wouldn't have kept getting jobs. So while some of us were annoyed by him, he was nonetheless very good at what he did. As I understand it he was disovered running a booth at a carnival or something where he was selling some product, and crowds of people were listening to him. He went on to great fame. He was a true American success story, and by all accounts I've seen was also a very nice person. I won't miss his commercials, but I was shocked and saddened to read today of his untimely passing.

I saw him on Fox News a few months ago, and he impressed me with his maturity and personality, not to mention his grasp of current events.

As for his commercials......God bless TIVO!!!

Last tv apperance of Mr. Mayes just hours before his death. Also a discussion of what may have killed him (HERE). My guess is the autopsy will be performed by chief medical examiner Dr. Vernard Adams of the Hillsborough County (Dist 13) Medical Examiner's office (HERE).

I don't think yelling at people is the way to get them to buy your product.

Billy was a good guy. Just a bit excitable. Very successful in what he did. This is a bummer.

    hypertensive heart disease

According to chief medical examiner Dr. Vernard Adams of the Hillsborough County (Dist 13) Medical Examiner's office in Florida, Billy Mays most likely died of hypertensive heart disease. During the autopsy, Dr. Adams found "No evidence of exterior or interior head trauma" (SOURCE). Sad, but not uncommon.

    Life truly is a vapor....

"For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanishes away." (James 4:14).

I grew up with Baptist preachers yelling at me (actually the entire congregation) and they got lots of people to come forward and buy what they were selling...

    It's an attention-getter.

It's ironic that he went so quietly!

At least he didn't have needle marks all over his body from injecting Oxy-Clean.

Wow...what a lot of celebrities to pass...

Farah, Ed McMahon, Billy Mays, Michael Jacson (and thus, by logic, LaToya Jackson)

That's because the mortality rate of the human race is pretty close to 100%.
