So Tim, by your definitions, opposition to abortion, homosexuality, etc. could be classed as legalism.

See Paul you are judging a church that would use the Super Bowl as an outreach event and saying that church has become an entertainment center. I'm sure you probably use the same higher than thou attitude toward any music, dress, or other Sunday activity that you deem to be unholy. You sir are judging. Just because it doesn't set well with your "high" standards doesn't make it wrong. You are not using spiritual discernment. You are using your extra-Biblical opinion. Now, if you can show a clear Biblical mandate then I'm with you all the way. If not, then it reeks of Christian snobbery. ie. You say that you don't do anything on Sunday afternoon except rest and spend time with your family. And, that's great for you. Generally, that's what I do too. But, you present it in a way that says that to do anything else on Sunday is somehow wrong and yet you would be hard pressed to present solid Biblical evidence of this being a requirement for holy living.

When did he ever even allude to such nonsense? Sin is not legalism...extra-biblical things pharisees require in order to not be "worldly" IS.

Whoa, so your'e saying that a lot of the items on his list are talked about, and possibly practiced, in your church? And you don't think you have a problem with legalism?

so you think using attractions for the flesh is a holy tool for outreach using all the elements of the SB And then want Jesus to wait in line? Do you really think so little of people to have trick them into hearing the GospEl or is it you think so little of it?

Can you show me where anyone said to trick anyone into hearing the gospel? I don't think so. IF our church showed the Super Bowl at church, it would be for us. For fellowship. You do that at your church, don't you? Like have a potluck or something? What's different?

I am not a pharisee. You do not know me. I have not entered into this debate before today.

I was just taking Tim's example to an extreme to show that it seems that some people use the pejorative term legalism as an argument against those who happen to have a different set of standards.

I'm lying about what exactly, that sin is not legalism? Do you have any clue what you are talking about?

Not long ago, our church had a movie night, where we showed "King Kong" in the santuary on Sunday night. I'm just wondering how hellbound we are by having done so.

    And that is the problem...
People disagreeing what the standards should be..

Everyone of us would say the standards should be found in the Bible... Period.
But some here want to ADD standards that are not found in the Bible and then "encourage" people to keep them..
Then take it to the next level by saying that if we don't keep them, then we are not good Christians.

ADDing to the Bible is a sin.

By saying that a good church will not have a Superbowl party, is adding to God's word.. because...

No where in the Bible does it say Superbowl parties are wrong.
No where in the Bible does it say the church must meet Sunday evenings
No where in the Bible does it say the church cannot get together to fellowship while watching sports...
ACTUALLY... The church SHOULD be fellowshipping..

And that is just one example...

NO where in the Bible does it say women can't wear pants
NO where does it say we must carry the KJV

WE add rules, and then because some preacher preaches them we think they are from God!

WE should be like the Bereans... and investigate things said from the pulpit.

And if the Bible doesn't agree with it.. call it out.

That's the problems with the legalists around here, they ADD to the Bible, then when they are called out.. play this, "I'm going to pity you because I am better than you because I..." Game...

Not realizing that what they are doing is rooted in Pride.
    Self Righteous pride.

    then they

    WE'll since it wasn't a double feature, you're only 50% Hellbound.. :tongue3:

Now.. GODzilla would have been a more holy movie.

There's a lot of verses floating around from First Opinions around here like

21:3 "Thou shalt use Sunday afternoons before period of legitimate church activities (see verses 1:1-19:51 to find legitimate church activities allowed) to spend resting and with family.

34:6 "Thou shalt not use any method except pulpit preaching (see verses 30:1-33:82 for definitions of legitimate pulpit preaching) on Sunday evenings for soul winning."

55:6 "Thou shalt always have a legitimate church service (see verses 56:7-66:66 to see if your services are legitimate or not) every Sunday afternoon not before 6:00PM and not after 7:30PM.

88:3 "If it's not good enough to be shown in your church don't worry. You can watch it at your home with no problems."

100:112 "The Superbowl on Sunday evenings is an abomination espeically if you use it for a church fellowship."

220:9 "Wearing a Saint's football jersey or Colt's football helment to church is not permitted (See verses 221:1-229:87 for definitions of appropiate attire for legitimate worship services on Sunday evening.)

You're obviously quoting from the AV1611 translation of 1st Opinions, which isn't the most accurate translation :wavey:

I'm quoting from the SAG red letter edition. It has been proven by scholars that I know to be the most accurate.

You lie when you group me in with "you pharisees". Read your post.

Yes, as opposed to some, I do know what I am talking about.

So you have naked women and show beer commercials with potluck? "POTLUCK" consists of a variety of ingredients, do you all put Viagra in yours? Maybe you're hoping for the chance to judge us? I do see this thread has transitioned from the wolfpack to a hogfest! Guard your pearls, children!
